Leg Bandages?

They would be fine for exercise but yes you would need to use gamgee under them as they are elasticated :)
Fleece bandages are better for stable use :)

hiya, (i have kinda 'borrowed' my friends account... so here goes) I have got a grey horse and am wanting to keep him clean before going to a show, are these the right sort of bandages and would i need to put anything under them?
would they be ok to use as excersice bandages too?

thank you :D

If you don't know the answer to your own questions then please do not bandage the horse. You can do untold harm if you do not know what you are doing.

TBH you would probably be better with stable wraps/leg wraps of some kind. Quicker and easier to put on and take off but with all the same benefits. It's really important that bandages are put on properly so if you do decide to buy some make sure you get someone to show you how to do it well. (Sorry if you already know the correct way to bandage but am assuming not as you're asking questions re. materials.) Stable bandages should always have gamgee/fibergee underneath and it's really important to get an even tension and make sure they're not too tight - you can cause serious damage this way. I'd avoid elasticated banages as it's too easy to over-tighten them, especially if you've not done much bandaging in the past. :)

totally agree with above comment. Just get up a bit earlier and wash your horses legs the day of the show. I also would never use elasticated bandages for anything...I hate them.

Bloody rediculous - how on earth is she supposed to learn then?

Stable bandages are usually felt like material, soft and non-stretchy, exercise are stretchy and usually rougher material than stable, polo are somewhere in between, tail are narrower but same material as exercise. Get some reusable gamgee pads too for use under both exercise and stable.

Than practice, practice, practice - you want to bandage your mum's leg first just to get the feel of how tight they should be - tight enough not to slip or unravel but not too tight to cause constriction of the blood vessels! Using pads underneath will stop you doing too much damage. OH, and never, ever ever leave a tail bandage on for hours or over night! You can lose tails!!

Go on practice.

Get somebody to show you first :)

Look out for fleece polo wraps for exercise, you can get nice matching sets with the saddlecloth on ebay :)
