my horse came in from the field with a tiny swelling to the back and very bottom of the leg. when i checked him the next day the vein that runs along the tendon bone had inflamed and he wasnt weight baring on it. if he tries to walk it is a struggle for him. i thought it may be a tendon injury but am not too sure now as at the bottom of his hoof there is a small indent like he has trod on a stone and that is the leg he is lame on. i dont really want to call the vet yet so i am going to give him a few days on beaut to see if he is just only lame. he will be on rest too in an isolated feild as he wont run around but still can exercise because i dont want it cease if he is on boxrest. what do you think it could be or what would you reccomend?

I personally would get a vet especially as he is struggling to walk.
It could be a number of things, I also would not give bute until he is checked (does he have bute regularly? just asking as it is perscribed) as it could mask something.
If it's a deep rooted abcess then it needs exposing, poulticing and antibiotics.
If its a leg injury he needs box rest in a stable, as his movement needs restricting completely, cold hosing and possibly bangaging and walking in hand but again I would get a vet for his advice
