Bit of a long shot but does anyone know of, or have any suggestions for, something Buddy can wear on one of his front legs, to discourage his self harming habit? Ideally, it would cover his ankle/knuckle joint but doesn't need to cover his foot. Once his current sores are healed (had vet assistance), I'm thinking we should try something to discourage/prevent. Also, it will help the dog sitter when we go away in a couple of weeks time. He almost needs a tendon boot or leg wrap, but small...? Have searched but not finding much but may be using the wrong words... TIA ??

I would expect a resting dog to chew a boot/legwrap. You would probably find an inflatable doughnut more use to stop him chewing. They are available from Amazon (sorry no ljnk).

Close but not quite - the dew claw one is very nearly, but it needs to cover more of the front.

We've got an inflatable collar which we're training him to wear, but it is a slightly longer process than normal. Also, I think he struggles to lie down in it as it's so sticky outy! I don't imagine it's very comfortable - it seems to me a bit like a travel pillow in that the head lolls about a bit ? but we're working on it. He's pretty good when resting and it has helped enormously, having his leg bandaged. I think the licking is a compulsive behaviour, but I need to do a bit more reading. It is ingrained though, as he's done it for 7+ years.

What about these:

I got them for Ffee when she cut her stop pad. You could probably even put them on back to front. Agree he might chew them though.
When Brandy locked herself raw we sprayed it bitter apple spray from the vet (covered the actual oozy bit first) and that stopped her.

Back to front - that's a great shout. I was thinking when I read Karran's post that there must be a way as they're about the right length. I'll have a look for a spray - thank you. I would hope he wouldn't chew, but he keeps throwing up these little surprises. When he had a little skin infection in between his pads he was very good, but that was an injury, not a compulsive habit, if that makes any sense. To give him his credit, he's not a destroyer like Harvey, although he did tear his Dog School certificate to shreds on presentation of it, as he was so over-excited ???

A quick fix is a child's knee sock with a band of sicking plaster or duct tape around the top to stick it to his fur. Absolutely do not put the plaster on tight, it just needs to roll round the leg and adhere to fur. Old vet nurse trick from donkey's years ago.
