well i have cold hosed it and put a cooling gel i found in the cupboard on it to see if it will help..its cold as i can feel it chilling my hand although i have washed it

it is still puffy but doesnt look like there is a particular swelling, she has a slightly puffy lower knee and this then continues to nearly down to her fetlock but not quite.
when you look at it you dont imediatly think anything is wrong but when you feel it compared to the other you can tell.

it almost just looks puffy and filled but havent had much experience of this before.

I lunged her on the hard drive and have totted her up and down and she is sound and full of mischeif:P!!!!

if its not better in the morning i shall ring the vet and have a chat see what they say/whether they will come and see it immidiatly or want to leave it for a few days and see....so shall keep posted!

Those who said it could be a liogament, could this still be the case, has anyone got any pics or diagrams which i could compare it to?

Sorry I never took any photos of the horse here with check ligament damage; but it looked exactly like your photo.

Is the larger area, soft and squidgy or firmish to the touch? Does it feel like there is fluid in there? Or can you sort of move it around?

Not explaining this very well am I.

its more soft and squidgy than it is hard, and when i say it looks filled, its not like there is an obvious swelling if you see what i mean! im not explaing it very well either! its just not a lump if you see what i mean!
 
No I understand you. It's just an enlarged area - I was useless at explaining it when the horse here did it if it helps you any.

Can you email the photo and description to your vet? Then he should be able to tell you immediately whether it is the check ligament or not - it does look like it to me though.
 
i dont think they accept emails! it will be easier to ring tommorrow and say i want to speak to our vet immediatly! at least as iv finished school im here all the time so they can come anytime!
hopefully they will be able to come out soon, im now googling ligament injuries to see if there is anything to compare to....i just hope it isnt that.......
 
It's really best to not have her moving if you can help it. They often arent lame buyt you will notice obvious heat.

Until the vet has seen it treat it as if it's a ligament injury, you could significantly help the early healing process by keeping it cool.
 
well update as of tonight-the swelling has gone down since this morning and any puffyness remaining is more at the front and just round to the side rather than nearer the back. it has also cooled down. vets will be rung in the morning.

problem is even if i had her in she has a large stable and she will walk around more and is more likely to walk about and twist it i think rather than he just wandering arund in the field i have been debating whether to get her in or not all day. i have put her in the paddock which is flat and although wet it isnt at all squidgy and she wont sink in..wheras our other paddock is very boggy.

i shall see in the morning. do you think it is worth cold bandaging it over night? or is it going to be more hassle and lkikely to cause a problem left out in the field?
