Leg wraps and washing legs

I've just got some lovely thermatex leg wraps to help dry my horse's legs overnight as our fields are already a complete bog.

Silly question though... Should I hose the mud off his legs and towel dry them first or just whack them on top of the mud?

I tend to hose the mud off (to stop the wraps getting too dirty), but I do know people who just wack them over the top.

I wash off the mud with hose them put leg wraps on. In the morning I put Keratex Powder on his heels which is really good at preventing mud fever (my horse has very pink heels). This works very well for me.

We always whack the Thermatex leg wraps straight on to muddy legs. We never wash legs off and our horses have never yet had mud fever. Whereas most horses at our yard get MF as their owners wash their legs off.
