I am looking for something to prevent mud fever and unsure whether it is better to get turnout socks and/or stable leg wraps to dry out at end of day or both. Please could someone provide some advice. many thanks
Thanks, I have purchased the Keretex 7 day mud away but I was concerned about drying the legs off overnight and having looked at review after review just found myself going round in circles
To be honest, I find any sort of turnout boots or chaps horrendous for mudrash as they seem to trap the mud underneath and sweat up.
Neem oil is supposed to be very good for mudrash. I'd get some thermatex leg wraps to pop on when she comes in then brush the mud off as opposed to washing daily. Mine gets diluted hibbiscrub sprayed on a few times a week as well.
I've just found my horse to have mud rash on his back legs! He doesn't have it on his front legs because he wears turnout boots on his fronts and his front legs are completely clean. Don't hose down your horse's legs-it has made his rash worse. I wouldn't recommend washing the legs at all - it is best to let them dry and brush the mud off. Pig oil and sulphur is really good just paint it on yours horse's lower legs the mud just slides off. I like turnout boots alot just make sure they are a snug fit around the legs so they don't all down but not tight. Premier equine turnout boots are good and not really expensive , but i have a pair of neophrine boots from decathlon which work just aswell and are cheaper!
