Hi,

My boy gets really bad mud fever in the winter and I'm thinking of getting some leg wraps to help dry his legs off quickly. Does anyone have any suggestions on which are best thermatex or thermaluxm as there's a bit of a difference in price.

Does anyone know where I might get some secondhand as I'm trying to save for some new boots too and could do without having to spend too much at the moment!!!
 
have a look on ebay or local free ads

i used to loan a horse and his owner made me some really good ones, she cut a towel in 2, length ways added velcro tabs to them. i just wrapped them round after washing legs, just whilst i was still on the yard they dried him off really well altho wouldn't leave them over night
 
I use the Thermatex ones, cant remember how much they cost but I have had them about 5 years, in fab condition (only one has a pull/fray where it must have got caught on something) and my boy wears them all night every night in the winter. I call them his socks!!
 
ditto FnM, i picked mine up reasonably cheap from Your Horse Live a few years ago, work wonders

I have the Thermatax boots, got them new this year to help dry off legs and stop the legs filling. My girl has no white socks and has never had mud fever in the 4 years I've had her. This year she has mud fever on both hinds and a small amount on her off fore.

The boots do dry the legs but they also provide a lovely cosy environment for the bacteria to multiply, personally I would recommend chaps for the field (my sister uses them on all four legs after mud fever getting so bad the horse was lame and ended up box rested!) to stop the legs getting any mud on them. Also Camrose works a charm to get rid of any mud fever that is already there, my girls patches have pretty much clear up after 2 weeks of intersive Camrosa treatment.
 
keep looking on the net etc, youll come accross a deal. I paid £15 each set (of 4) so bought 2 sets for my girl for when 1 was in the wash
Ive heard the equilibrium ones are good and much cheaper
 
I use Premier Equine leg wraps (the ones which cost around £16 a pair). I considered the Thermatex ones and the Equilibrium ones but to be honest these ones seem to work just fine. I use them overnight to dry their legs if I've washed them. I also used them recently when I had to wrap my 5yr old's legs due to excessive swelling with a virus. Bandaging would probably have been preferable in this situation but the wraps were all I had in. I was pleasantly surprised that they actually kept his legs nicely supported but still wicked away in moisture if he got a little hot inside them.
