My horse has a bit of mud fever so after I've washed them I wrap them in Thermatex leg wraps. I remember hearing years ago that leg wraps keep horses toasty therefore not requiring as warm rugs. Is this an old wives tale? Keeping my socks on to bed certainly helps me! ?

I used leg wraps on mud fever legs straight on top of the mud without washing. I found the washing softened the skin and made it more susceptible to sores. I brushed the dry mud and ‘paintbrushess’ off gently and when it was healed used baby oil or similar for protection.
There are probably other ways that work just as well.
