Okay so I took my camera for what was supposed to be a little walk.....turned out Legacy et al were a good old way away right over the other side of the hill, so off I wandered.

Firstly, Golden is not due until end of August. Now although she is looking good, still nice and muscley, I have had this distinct feeling that she is larger around the belly than she should be at this stage in her pregnancy and I am a teeny bit worried that she may be carrying twins which would not be good. Anyway I thought I'd take a picture and see what you guys think? Do bear in mind that she is a Foundation-bred mare and that is why she is so muscley, she doesn't have an ounce of fat on her.

And this picture took soooooo long to get. Legacy just would not stand still and unfortunately I only have 2 hands, one on the camera and one rubbing her hair backwards.....but she thought that I should have also been rubbing her chest....so we went twirly-twirly for a fair while, LOL!! Anyway, it still doesn't really come up well in photos but it gives you a slight idea of her grey undercoat.

And finally; for those who remember that I bought Ezzy's sister in a pretty bad way......well here she is now. Her UFP hasn't shown at all in the last week; she appears almost over it and considering it was only in January when I got her and she could barely take any strides without flipping both hind legs out or becoming totally locked up. Well now all you see is lovely flowing strides, so fingers crossed this is it!

They are all gorgeous Tia! I think Golden looks huge, but I am really not in the know so to speak. Legacy is deffo going to be grey or maybe roan? Ezzy's sis looks fantastic - huge credit to you!

Yes you see I think she looks enormous too! She is a super-muscle-machine though so I am not sure whether she just looks huge to me because of that - maybe her belly is in proportion to her make-up I mean? The belly just looks massive compared to Cloud at 7 months pregnant.

Trixie has come on leaps and bounds and I am even considering backing her in a month or so. It's almost unbelievable what good turnout can do.
 
I do hope that is all it is. It would be such a shame particularly as I've gelded Ezzy

Ezzys sister has the most amazing markings, fingers crossed shes onwards and upwards now.
Wouldn't a roan Legacy be lovely - I love roans!
Golden looks completely square! I don't know anything about pregnant mares but she is big.
 
I know nothing about it but because she's so muscly could it just be that she's carrying the foal a bit differently to normal?

totally wrong I'm sure but just a thought.
 
Well I've been back out looking at her, and I do think that could be the case Ali - that was what I had wondered but just wasn't sure. I've looked back to old photos of her and she doesn't seem to look too enormous compared to them, but she still looks very muscled up. Hmm I don't know - guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks everyone for trying to help me. Druid gave me some info on roans and I don't think Legacy will be roan, would have been nice, but I would rather have grey anyway just like her Mummy.

Legacy looks so fluffy when you see you running your fingers through her coat. Bless her.

As for Golden, I know nothing about in-foal mares, but I do remember Lola (Enfys's) looking ready to pop since the day she bought her and she's only just foaled. (A rather stunning foal too)

Has Golden foaled before?
 
Ah yes Patches, Trixie is for sure a far more refined lady than her brother. She has a very beautiful head on her. I am so happy with her amazing progress though - I honestly can't believe how quickly she seems to have recovered. I'm going to be moving her into the field with the big hill in it soon and then I think it will be cracked for good...well fingers crossed anyway.

Yes Golden has had 4 foals before - this is what is making me think that perhaps that's just what she goes like when she is pregnant. I admit, perhaps I am basing too much on how Cloud looked - she certainly didn't look overly pregnant until the last couple of weeks, but yes you're right, when I've looked at a few in-foal mares on here they have looked like they were going to pop at about the same stage, so perhaps I'm worrying over nothing. There's nothing can be done anyway so I'll just have to sit it out.

I'm still loving Legacy - she's a little star!

Tia, I was going to ask exactly what Patches did, had Golden bred before?
Patches mentioned Lola looking ready to pop when I got her at 6 months pregnant, perhaps it has something to do with them having had several foals before. Of course, Lola is a totally different build to Golden so would look different anyway. Golden is looking great though and I covet your fence!

I was thinking the other day about the massive difference in physique that these Quarter Horses/Paints have and how unfamiliar it seems in comparison to the horses you generally see in the UK.
 
Well first off they all look super!

Golden- My friend had a mare in-foal last year and even at 3 months in-foal she was MASSIVE, and im not kidding, a lot bigger than what Golden is now. She was sooooo big at 10 months, i've never ever seen a broodmare so big. Friend had the vet out and everyone was convinced she was in-foal with twins, including another vet. Tiffany went 4 weeks over

and produced a whoopy bright bay filly! So i wouldn't worry too much, but you never know do you.

I didn't realise you'd had Ezzy gelded.
 
I don't know how you were with your subsequent pregnancies yourself Tia, but I got bigger with each of mine! I would hazard a guess (and it is just a guess as I have no idea really) that her having bred four foals before has played a big role in the shape she is now. I guess, just like people, some horses carry differently too.

She's lovely and I am looking forward to seeing what the little foalie looks like when he or she pops out!

It really is great news about Trixie. She looks such a healthy and happy horse now. I thought she was a lovely horse when you got her, but she's turned into something quite special now. I reckon her previous owners would be kicking themselves if they could see her now!

I also agree on the carrying very differently. My mares are both maiden but Teazle is definitely carrying low, her belly has dropped and she isn't that wide, whereas Bramble's belly hasn't dropped that much but she is very wide, so is carrying quite high.

Oh thank you so much you guys - you really have helped set my mind at rest. I guess only time will tell but for now I feel more relaxed about it. LOL!! Last night I was with her for ages and kept looking and looking and maybe she isn't so huge after all, it may well just be her bulk of a frame which is leading me to thinking this. I have a couple of Foundations and although they are younger and are geldings, they are looking pretty darned chunky too so maybe it's just that I have been spending too much time with our little British ponio LOL!!

Patches; I got an email from Trixie's previous owner yesterday and I daren't tell her! I know she paid a lot of money for her and I think it is too early to let her know that she has improved beyond recognition, so I'm planning on keeping quiet about it for the moment....not sure why I should mind you as I haven't done anything that anyone else couldn't have done ie. her; but I guess it is kinder to not mention it just yet.
 
I know what you mean though. I would feel the same way. However, she had Trixie for long enough to seek veterinary attention and treatment which would have arrived at the same outcome.

You haven't taken advantage, you have reaped the rewards of knowledgeable and sympathetic horse ownership.

I bet there's a little part of you that is feeling rather smug right now, and quite rightly so. I am so pleased you bought her and have given her this chance at a normal life.
