Is there a minimum legal age to drive a horse on a road ? Just asking as last two nights driving home from yard I have seen three children driving a horse up and down quite a busy winding country lane with quite a few blind bends and it just got me thinking ?

Im not sure but maybe worth looking up or speaking to British Driving ? I think children under 14 years old are not allowed to ride horses/ponies alone on the road , but Im not 100% on that .

I didn't think there was any minimum age for riding on the roads- I know quite a few kids age around 10 - 12 who regularly ride out on their own, and hack to local gymkhanas.
And I don't think there's any 'age related' laws on driving either.

Are you thinking of the hat rule?
Under 14's are not to ride on the public highway without a properly fitted helmet

Driving regs: https://www.gov.uk/rules-about-animals-47-to-58/horsedrawn-vehicles-47-to-48
And they also come under the drink driving/dangerous driving regs too.

I believe there isn't in England, but in Scotland under 14s need to have double reins when on the roads. Competent youngsters get around this by using a lunge line that their adult backsteppers hold in case of emergency.
