I sold my horse 11 months ago as a hack and kept in contact with the new owner by email and phone for 6 months. She was very happy with the horse until he became injured in some way, and I got an email saying he was now semi retired and heard nothing from her until 2 months later when I got a letter from her solicitor.
They claim the horse is dangerous and needs special care, and this they say was obvious from the outset. This is total rubbish. They are wanting me to pay for his keep etc for the last year and for the rest of his life.
Does anyone know where I stand legally on this matter, or experienced this type of thing?

If its a private sale and you have emails to show that she was happy with her purchase, her argument that the horse had issues from the beginning of the sale are clearly unfounded. You should be fine.

If you have an equestrian business it could be a whole diffent story. I have a friend who was in a similar situation and ended up settling out of court to put an end to the stress and drama being created.

If you are gold member BHS, ring their help line for free legal advice.

Doesn't sound like they will get very far - particularly if you have kept the emails/texts/phone call records stating how happy they are. If you are a member of bhs make good use of their legal helpline, or CAB.

Isnt it funny that when the Chips are down people turn sour... Really hope you get this sorted

Oh goodness how awfull for you, I am sure they don't have any legal standing, they were quite happy to keep in touch while everything was hunky dory! A person can sell a horse they have owned for ages and know its temperament and then when it goes wrong at a new home you have to wonder what happened to make the horse change, there again any horse can get injured once sold, mate of mine bought a horse, that cut itself badly week into ownership, and was never sound again, insurance would not pay as horse was owned for less than 14 days!!
Stick to your guns, and phone BHS legal lot.

Sounds odd to me, why has the horse become dangerous and why does it needs special care for the rest of its life, and if this is correct I would have thought a good vet would say pts.
