Can anyone tell me what the current legislation is for returning un-opened (seal still intact) drugs to vets if not required? Have had product for 10 days.

Our clients just hand them over to our girls behind the desk when no longer required - we usually refund them the difference if they are still in date.

The vet I used to work never accepted drugs back once they had been dispensed as there was no guarantee that they had been stored correctly (i.e. at the correct temperature). I am sure different vets have different policies though, so best to just check with your own vet.

When our dog died we had lots of unopened drugs. We took them to the vets, not for a refund as insurance had paid anyway but thought they would be of use and didnt want to throw them away for a little child to find. They wouldnt accept them for use again as apparently by law they are not allowed to but did dispose of them for me.

we are not allowed by law to accept returned drugs to resell and therefore give a refund. any returned drugs must be disposed of. this is not our law - we did not make it - it is covered under the Pharmacies Act. some vets may choose to ignore this, but ours doesn't.
