A few of you offered great advice on why the inside of my legs were hurting after fast, tense canters. (Sorry, can't find the thread, think it was one of those lost in the forum transfer period.)

Tried out a few things at the weekend and guess what? Now the front of my legs hurt too, which is great, thank you! :-) No, seriously. We went around our own farm so I was more relaxed knowing where there would be natural places to pull up and so I let him go a little more. Didn't exactly do it 'light seat' but half-way there. Kept loads more weight 'dropping down' through my heels and didn't worry too much if the toes (well, all the way from hips through knees down to toes) pointed out a smidge.

We also didn't have any fights. If he wouldn't steady I brought him straight back to walk and if I didn't get canter the moment I asked for it I did lots of transitions so it felt more like schooling. Felt much more in control and I couldn't stop smiling. Owner said he barely woke up when she changed his rugs later he was so tired and relaxed. So, thank you HHO!
