Hi all,

When going to Hickstead the other day I bought some Bioflow brushing boots as I heard they could help with my horses navicular.

Now he's been wearing them for a few nights ( say about 10-11hrs at a time ) with no problems.

But the other day took them off and they were quite swollen just where the boots had been ( warm a puffy ) It was a warm evening, could that have anything to do with it? It took about 3 days for the swelling to go down.

Now the lady who sold them too me did say they could swell if wore over 12hrs.
But he hasn't wore them over the limit so don't understand why, and doing a little research on them people are buying them to stop their horse's legs swelling over night in the stable!

Has anyone else had this problem?

And should I stop using them?

To my knowledge (limited!

) if you're using magnetic type boots you should build up the time the horse wears them (at least, that was what I was told when I bought mine (not bioflow though) so maybe swelling is cos he's not used to them as they're meant to increase the blood flow to the area??

Seeing as magnetic boots are not proven to do anything at all (the static magnet ones), it's likely that your horse's legs swelled for a reason totally un-related to the boots. Could he have reacted to the neoprene? Was it a warm/hot night? Three days is a very long time to wait for swelling to go down, IMO...

Your supposed to build up the time they wear them over a few days so they get used to them.
I've got a bioflow braclet and I put it on and forgot to take it off the 1st time I used it. Gave me an awful headache but I didin't swell up anywhere but I guess as I had the headache I took it off but horses can't do that can they???

Yes it was a hot night, I don't think he has reacted to the material as he has other boots made of neoprene and not had any problems before but i could be wrong.

When the women at Hickstead sold them to me, I was told not to wear them for longer than 12hrs and over night would be the best time to use them

I never got told to build the time up of use.

I'll see how he gets on with shorter lengths of time.

Cheers for the advice

Yep def build up the time wearing them. It advises that with human bioflow products too.

Leave them off for a few days and then slow start building up the time worn.
