I am planning to take Murphy for an afternoon out with my friend and her pony this week, but we're not sure what to do/where to go?

Ideally we'd like a long hack with a few places for a canter (or a gallop

) , maybe somewhere to stop for a picnic, and I'd like to go off-road as riding on the road terrifies me

So...any suggestions??

Thanksies

Thanks - we were considering that but I'm a bit worried about the ground being really hard and not being able to do any of the jumps (not that I'd be likely to actually make it over any...)?

where abouts are you?
have you got/can you get transport?
i know a few places around loughborough way which sound perfect for you....
beacon hill and bradgate park. Really nice rides around there and i've been known to bomb around there and great places for a picnic...:D

Foremark Reservoir, marshalled a Le Trek there, looks really nice and lots of Leicestershire country surrounding,

Also Calke Abbey, think theres a ride around there and not forgetting the Gallops for hire at Calke Abbey stables

Have Fun

Ooo come to foremark and I can be your tour guide, we live near there. Daisy would love Murph I'm sure. There's an ice cram shop and picnic area half way around.

You can't go in Calke without an annual pass ( meanies

I am sure your hardy little pony would cope fine with hard ground... not that i'm suggesting thrashing him!

Bradgate park is lovely to ride through, and you can continue through Swithland Woods as well if you want to go further. The days/times you can go are restricted though, but I think you'll be ok on a wednesday.

The UK Chaser courses tend to have very well looked after ground, btw

Ahh they must have changed it - it used to be Tues and Thurs afternoons you couldn't ride.

Uk Chasers course at Stanford on Avon; I know its just inside Northants, but well worth it; 8 miles long, plus if you have an OS map there are miles of bridleways, so you can go off the course and back on again!
