Other half has been asked to work in Leicester temporarilly until a position is filled.
If he wanted to take the job permanantly though it would be his.

We have loosly spoken about relocating.

But abviously need to move the whole family!

he will be working close to the hospital.
So
where are the nicest places to live?
Where are the nicest schools?
(daughter currently attends a very nice indepentant school, with very small classes and very good results, finding another school which is so lovely im sure is possible but a hard task!)

For me, where are the best places to ride?
Best competition venues?
Best livery yards and best dog walking?

Thanks!

I have friends in Scraptoft - Beautiful house in a really cute village only 10 mins out of Leics with miles and miles of offroad hacking

I'm from leicester and there are a lot of nice places, market bosworth is nice or anywhere near bradgate park. Will he be near the royal infirmary general or glenfield hospital?

Competition venues within a reasonable distance (im not in leicster so i know more venues a bit far from you, but these are the two that are good and are more your way):
Vale View Equestrian
Arena UK
Theres a great xc course too, a huge variety of jumps and a great water complex. Aylesford XC

The hospital near De montfort university.. not sure which hospital that is though!

Which hospital? If the infirmary, probably best to look at south Leicestershire, General north and east. I live in Quorn, which is north west Leicestershire and very nice, lots of nice villages around. We live very close to Swithland woods, Bradgate park and Beacon hill, which are all fab for riding and dog walking. Quite a bit of competition opps, if you head north of Leicester with Vale View and Brooksby both offering a lot.

Loughborough way has some lovely private schools, Gracedieu and the convent are both good and quite small. There is also a trinity of private schools on the same site, Fairfield/Loughborough High and the Grammar school. All have fab results and small class sizes.

If you went east, Market Harborough is very nice, but not sure if it might be a bit far away for you. I don't know it very well though.

You could look at market Harborough area, the town is lovely and it's a horsey area, and your OH could catch the train into the city which is close to the LRI. As far as I know, parking at the hospital is pretty rubbish and as it's right in the city centre the traffic is a nightmare, so somewhere on the train line might be useful.
That said, I think the best area for riding is beacon hill and Swithland area, some lovely villages there too, but not so easy to commute in.
If you were to look south of the city, I'm pretty sure the Park and ride at Enderby goes very close to the hospital. From there you could live in the nicer villages a bit further south and have an easy commute. The hacking is best around Peatling area and possible competition venues are high cross and Witham villa, and a bit further afield onley grounds.
If you're into serious competing, Vale view is north of the city and a very impressive venue.

Just to add, there are nice yards I'm Enderby and Blaby areas which are probably closest to the city. I lived in the city centre and had horse in these areas. Diamond equestrian is a good relatively new competition venue - low level but professionally run, I've been going to there shows for a while.

If you look in East /south east leics, check out Welland valley feeds website to get an idea of available yards.

If you wanted to live in the city itself - well, it's not the best... But clarendon park, Stoney gate and Knighton are the places to look at.

Don't know about independent schools as my son just goes to whatever school is near to us but we are in South Wigston (south Leicestershire) and the traffic is horrendous every morning for my OH to get into town (he works near the hospital). there are lots of yards around me though (Blaby, Enderby, Narborough, Countesthorpe, Market Harborough). It's pretty horsey round me though, I rode home yesterday and then road to my mate's house on the way back to the yard. Everyone rides down my street.

I would def say somewhere in South Leicestershire though :)

I'm in Mountsorrel - the next village to Quorn!
I'd also agree it's a very nice area and good access to Leicester. As others have said, traffic in Leicester is a nightmare and the LRI is right in the middle. Train may be a better option. Lots of yards in the area and competition venues too!

I am not horsey but live inside the city area NW of city centre near to walkers crisps factory

I would think the Quorn area is good for horsey stuff because the famous quorn hunt is there

Many of my advanced driving runs are done in that area and we see many out riding without any issues

There is the option of the Birstall park and ride on the A6/A46 junction

The market bosworth general area is lovely lots of nice riding and there are local gallops/xc courses, and is close enough to Hargate, Weston Lawns, Vale View, Witham Villa amongst others or Newbold Verdon & Moorelands if you want unaffiliated, there are plenty of riding clubs too, National Forest, Atherstone & Burbage. There's also the Dixie Grammar school as well as the Grace Dieu for your daughter. I live just outside Bosworth, but keep my horses at a small private yard there, hacking is lovely, and so is the dog walking! Plus Bosworth has some lovely pubs & restaurants!!

Oh and there's plenty of local county type shows with the Bosworth show & Ashby show!

I live about 7 miles outside of market harborough. Takes about 15-20mins to get to the infirmary (felt like hours when I was travelling there with a dislocated elbow!!) Its a brilliant area for competition venues. One of the best areas in the country in my opinion. not far from Arena Uk, Weston Lawns, Onley, Vale view, markfield and Solihull. Oh and Keysoe isnt too far either. Loads of livery yard and loads of uk chasers aswell

If he is based near DMU, then it's probably LRI which is near the city centre. Good place to live around there would be Oadby, Great Glen or any of the villages between Lutterworth, Market Harborough & Leicester. The nicest area of Leicestershire in my opinion for village location & hacking would be the area between the A47 ( towards Oakham) and the road to Melton Mowbay. Though this would be quite a way from LRI but fine for LGH.
North Leics near Bradgate park, Beacon Hill, Swithland woods , again lovely riding but VERY busy roads.
Are you looking for full, part or DIY Livery?
Venues around Leicester, Vale View, Markfield, Arena UK, Weston Lawns, Solihull all within 1 hour.
