i need a leightweight coat for my extrely large heavy weight mare,, she's just recently left her foal and has put a fair bit of weight so need a coat with a large gusset wink anyone know of any good fitting ones?
she's had coats before but after havin the foal and putting on her weight they no longer fit :/ and now because of the snow (2ft in some parts of the field! ) she really is in need xx
I've always found the Mark Todds very generous for the chunky monkeys. They are deep, long and the fastenings at the front are very adjustable.
Avoid Rambo, Rhino and Amigo for the big chested horses.
Mark Todd or if something a little cheaper go for a Weatherbeeta.
I've got a premier equine for my shire x cob, he takes 7'3" and they are often in sale on premier equine. However he only wears it when it's wet and windy as he needed to loose weight when we got him in september. He now looks fabulous. If your horse needs to loose weight before spring, even in the snow honestly don't rug her!! Having lost a horse with laminitis due to being fat you learn a hard lesson......
I agree that Premier Equine rugs are a good depth for the bigger horse, but really, if your mare has put on a lot of weight, and she is already out in 2ft of snow, then I'm sure she'll be fine.
Ours are never rugged in snow, they live out 24/7 and are fine. Horses do cope very well with snow!
