Looking for some new brushes as my old ones are all very old, cheap or knackered. I don't like the sound of Haas brushes so have narrowed it down to either Leistner, stubben or Le Meiux but cant decide between them. I want nice natural brushes. I don't mind paying for them if they do the job and I have small hands.

Any reviews greatly received.

I have a leistner raised edge body brush which I've had for several years and it's the nicest I've ever owned. Big fan. Mine has a wooden back and leather handle, horsehair bristles, just like the ones on the horse health website except mine has diamante in the handle :o  I don't think the raised edge one they sell has!

I don't like big heavy brushes (never got on with borstiq for example) but the leistner suits me well :)

It really depends upon the horse, its coat and what they like.

I've had stubben, equerry, haas, leistner over the years and for different horses they have all been good - but others haven't liked them!!!
Have a jolly good look (and feel if you can) at the bristle side of the brush to figure out which is best for your circumstances. For small hands you may like leather backs (I do), and not too heavy.

For a dense body brush for a fine coated horse I like stubben or haas. For a rougher coat equerry were good.

What's the problem with haas? do you feel they have been over-hyped? (I find them good brushes, they've actually been around for years)

Why have you discounted Haas?
I have been looking at them for ages and took the plunge to buy a smalls selection (not for eqclusive I may add) and am really impressed with them. If you ignore the hype and just look at them as reasonably priced nice quality brushes then they are excellent. I got the schimmel brush and have to say it is the only brush I have ever owned that sorts out the wavy patch he gets on his leg from lying in his wee, and i've tried loads of brushes on it.

mare is warmblood has think fine coat in summer so normally just use good quality body brush but in winter she has medium thickish coat on her bum where not clipped and front half is clipped. she does get scurfy so wanting something that will get into coat and lift scurf etc and also good quality.

I had sort of discounted Haas brushes as they have plastic backs and I wanted wooden.

Unfortunately none of our local tack shops stock any of these brushes so I cant go and see or feel them which is what I want to do.

I have recently bought the Haas set for my grey and I love them! They are absolutely amazing. The schimmel certainly gets whites white. How it does it I'm not sure but it does. These brishes are fab!

I'm another that wouldnt discount HAAS brushes, I have some of the kids size ones and they are brilliant for my little hands

I'm glad the Leistner brushes are considered "nice" brushes ... I'm the idiot that has bought a Leistner brush, thinking it was a HAAS brush :D I was a bit disappointed when I realised, but hopefully it'll still be a useful brush!
