Leisure Battery Question

Has anyone accidently drained their leisure battery to completely flat and then charged it?

Mine died totally at the weekend and has been disconnected and on charge for 2 days - still not enough power to work the ramp.

Battery and charger were new at Xmas.

Eventually, I attached car to battery and put ramp up that way.

Anyway, what do you think?

Going to check it this morning and if no better i shall totoally disconnect and take both battery and charger back to Halfords.

What current (amps) is it drawing from the battery charger?
If the needle is showing less than 2 and the battery is not charged then I'm afraid its likely the battery has died. Check the charger by attaching to car batery and see what current that draws

Unfortunately, it's one of the new chargers that just has an orange light to show it's charging and a green one to show when full

But it's for larger engines than this one.

Should be no prob if battery is dead - has 2 yr guarantee.

When a battery has been totally discharged there has sometimes been damage caused to the plates in the battery. Sometimes the battery is recoverable & sometimes it isn't. The best type of charger to use on these occasions is a trickle charger. A company called 'Optimiser' make them. Ask around your friends to see if anyone has one. They are normally used by motorcyclists & kit car enthusiasts. The charger is left permanently attached to the bike or car & it detects the slightest drop in charge & keeps the battery topped up. There is a possibility that one of these mnay be able to recover your battery....but it may have died. They are expensive so only borrow one.

I have drained the living battery and it recharged fine so it does sound as if yours is dead sorry. It doesn't need topping up with water or anything does it? I have just had to buy a new main one for my lorry as it just wasn't starting even with an isolator switch fitted. They are such a pain and big money pits really. Oh and now my toilet isn't flushing on mine. As well as the heating not working, I give up. The only good thing is I cured the leak.

Tbh, having once upon a time worked for the company that supplies the Halfords batterys, I would just take it back. Halfords will give you a new one and then take up a warranty claim with their supplier. It can sometimes take three or four days for a completely flat battery to take a charge, but with yours being so new it should really recharge.

Thanks guys. I will disconnect it this afternoon and take it back to Halfords.

My mechanic swore at me also for having such a cr*ppy charger, so am off to buy a "proper" one lol
