Hi,

Does anyone know what proof someone has to provide for a date of birth to be listed on a passport when the passport is being issued when the horse is adult?

Passport is a leisure horse Ireland passport issued when the horse was 4, no recorded breeding. But the DoB isn't January 1st, it has an actual date. What proof will someone have had to give to get that listed?

For a white passport here you don't need any proof at all, often my vet hasn't even tried to hazard a guess at the age. He would have just asked me and that's the year he puts on the marking sheet.

My old mare is on a white passport and I bought her nearly 15 years ago with a passport claiming she was a 10 year old. From dentition she wasn't but it did not bother me as she was exactly what I wanted.

She is being euthanized next week, she is probably nearer 30 than the passport that would suggest she is 25.

About the same as any other probably - whatever the owner said. Should look at teeth to check but probably didn’t. I have a Shetland I’m pretty sure is at least 5 years older than passport states, and a cob cross whose passport says she is 10 but teeth say 16-18. I also have a 6yo whose passport says she is 5, just to confuse things! She acts 6, body looks 6, teeth say 6 - was passported when she was 2 (apparently).
