Lemieux Elise waterproof puffer leaks like a sieve - anything I can use to waterproof it?

Just worn said jacket in light to medium rain for the first time and it’s honestly impressive how much like a sponge it is. Ive been out for an hour and it’s completely soaked through and also soaked my jumper underneath. I bought it at the end of August so presumably too late to return. Is there anything I can do to make it actually waterproof? It wasn’t cheap either…

I would contact the shop you got it from as its clearly not as advertised. That would be my starting point before doing anything with it.

Just googled it, it clearly states waterproof so I would go back to the supplier first and then if not the manufacturer.

It states it’s been discontinued so that might be why!

It has been discontinued but I think they sell a similar jacket with a different name. I assumed the colour was out of season and that’s why it was discontinued. Annoyingly I have other bits and pieces in the same colour that I bought to match the jacket.

I agree, I’m just a bit stuck as everything I have matches the colour of the jacket (marine, which is like a dark teal colour) so if they take it back I’m going to have to find different one that’s the same colour.

It is a but of a pain but at least the next jacket might be waterproof!

I really don’t see why you have to worry about everything matching a waterproof jacket? Surely it’s better to be warm and dry than be wearing this seasons fashions. I think you’ll find really waterproof jackets that ARE properly 20000 waterproof aren’t necessarily made to match the in season colour unless you have £££££s to spend each year.
 
If I remember rightly, the marine colour is from at least two years ago, so unless it has a waterproof membrane, it could simply be that the waterproof coating is no longer effective. Although you obviously bought it as new, it wouldn’t have been newly manufactured.

In terms of another new jacket, you’d probably be better off going for a colour that goes with teal, rather than is teal. I have a lot of teal (and turquoise) clothing, as it really suits me and is my favourite colour, but it’s quite a difficult colour to match because of the varying amounts of blue and green that are mixed to get that colour and they don’t all work well together. Although I have a couple of coats/jackets in those colours, I find navy, black and grey all work well with teal.
 
DWR, the outer coating that makes rain drops ball up and slide off, should only, slowly, deteriorated with use (and need refreshing with Nikwax etc). Not your issue if it's deteriorated in storage. It's not fit for purpose, the courts now can set a timeline that they feel is reasonable for a product type to perform as advertised, and that would absolutely cover 3 months for a waterproof coat!

Back to the retailer for a refund.

Completely agree, and apologies if that wasn't clear in my reply. It's definitely not the OPs fault that the coat isn't fit for purpose due to its age.
