Now having had chat with vet and needing to go back to thicker sheepskin numnah I am wondering which one to get. I want one that is soft and kind to the horse and will not rub. He now has a jumping saddle and I've only got gp sheepskin numnah's (the new one was jumping but rubbed him silly).

I've just been talking to someone who said that her Lemieux numnah rubbed her horse until it had been worn in. I think Nuumed are pretty harsh until they get worn in so what should I get?!!!

I do like Mattes ones but they are mega expensive!!

I've never had a problem with my nuumeds, but agree that you could wash them before you use if you are worried.

I haven't had a lemieux one, but often looked at them longingly at shows etc - until I had a good feel of a few and found them a bit lumpy. I'd stick with nuumed tbh, they wash and wear well and come in so many styles, you are almost certain to find one the right shape for your saddle.

I've got a lemieux one and I haven't had any problems with them rubbing. The one I have has 4 memory foam inserts which you can put in where you want a bit of extra protection.

If you want something really gentle then get a Christ horsedream one. I have the following sheepskin half pads (all about to go on ebay as horse now needs fully lined saddlecloth according to saddler):

Christ horsedream
Roma
Nuumed with foam inserts
Nuumed with memory foam

And of all of them the Christ Horsedream one is by far the nicest, softest and washes the best. I am waiting to hear how much Nuumed will charge me for fully lined one as the Christ horsedream ones are megabucks, but if it is within a few quid then I will get the horsedream ones for sure.

I have both and never had a problem, I think with all pads/saddles cloths you have to just keep a close eye on them and make sure there positioned correctly under the saddle and it comes well up the spine of the saddle too, I prefer to use them the a polite however I bob them over a good saddle cloth.

Have got 3 Le Mieux and 1 Nuumed and not had a problem with rubbing with any of them.

I do keep them clean smother them in human hair conditioner before washing.

I know you get what you pay for, and would go with Mattes everytime. They are fantastic quality and last for years.
You could always go for the knitted range they do rather than the Platinum range, work out a bit cheaper.

I've got a bronze range half lined numnah and can't fault it.

My Le Mieux one was beautiful, very very soft although quite thick. I sold it for not much less than I brought it for as it was too bulky under my very CC saddle. The quality is better than the numed ones imho
