Pony has dropped a lot of weight and some top line due to PPID and possible EMS, he hasn't really been in much Ridden work but we've done an awful lot of in hand walking especially over the lock down period.
I have been doing small amounts of Ridden work, just hacking and hills.
I want to crack on with his fitness but with the weight loss I feel his saddle is now too wide, I have been padding it out well and I can still fit three fingers under the pommel when I'm on board but don't want to make him sore.
I have contacted my saddle fitter and am awaiting an appointment date but in the mean time I have bought a smaller gullet (he is in a wintec wide) but have a feeling the smallest they do in the wide will still be too big so may need a new saddle unless he muscles up! Has anyone tried the pro sorb half pad, is it worth a try just
to lift it up a little in the mean time?
Thank you

Will your saddle fitter help check it's in the right balance from photos etc? It's actually a good idea to know how many fingers clearance you should have, then you know if it's dropped, and how much to lift it. Always check it when you get off (as leaning forwards in the saddle will reduce the clearance) with the girth fully done up.

You can keep clearance correct (and three fingers is almost the highest you'd want many saddles anyway) but push the balance out, and the balance is usually more important (ie some clearance is often enough clearance). I'm not a great fan of the LM corrective pads, the foam isn't proven, you can't look up its performance figures. I prefer the Mattes system but it's more expensive.

Yes good idea regarding the photo, didn't think of that! I will look at the Mattes system, I guess despite the cost it might be a good investment if he is going to be changing shape again over the next few months, will have a play around later, thank you

My EMS guy dropped a bit of muscle and the saddle was siting just a bit too low at the front. It's in perfect balance for him if I lift the pommel up ever so slightly, just lacking in a bit of flocking. I bought a Lemieux Pro Sorb with shims and its fantastic, just gives it that little bit more where it could do with a bit more flocking in the meantime while I get a saddler.
