Lemieux rubbing?

I’ve recently changed saddles and found marks from where the cc Lemieux pads have been rubbing my horse. I was really shocked and quite disappointed because Lemieux is such a well known brand for its quality.
Now with my new saddle I need to buy some dressage pads and I was wondering if the Lemieux Loire collection rub like the suede collection? I love the colours so would love to keep purchasing Lemieux however, I want my horse to be comfortable. Please share your experiences with the Loire collection especially if you’ve got a sensitive horse!

Where is it rubbing? If its under the saddle id be concerned about the fit of saddle as that shouldn’t happen, especially if it hadn’t been like that previously. If its from the binding of the numnah then i wouldn’t be too worried.
Can’t help on the Loire ones as I dont do dressage but i have seen Lemieux do a merino wool sensitive skin dressage pad that comes in a decent range of colours. Hard to explain but the underneath of the saddlecloth has a edging of wool to prevent rubs from binding(if that makes sense?!). Take a look on their website, its under their “merino wool” section in saddlecloths :)

I would also be wary of the saddle fit if a pad that didn't rub before started rubbing with a new saddle. Unless the pad was very dirty maybe?

Thank you ? yes it’s from the binding at the back of the saddle pad. I’ll take a look at their merino ones now!

Clarification- it’s not the new saddle that I’ve seen the rubbing with! ? when I changed saddles I noticed the mark from the cc pad (old saddle) along the edge near the back where the binding was

Also just found this in the description of the Loire pads - “The whole pad benefits from a new extensively researched soft friction-free suede binding”. So definitely sound as though they would be fine :)

My saddler told me you have to put them over a wall and hammer the end seams to soften them. If you run a finger over them when they are new, they are very rough. Don't know about Loire version, so perhaps this problem has been addressed.

Genius! I have 4 of the old ones that suited my last horse just fine but rub this one, who's over a hand smaller and much shorter coupled. Thanks for the tip!

It is a known problem with them but I find all my pads seems rub at the front on one of my horses in the summer as his coat is so fine, so I tend to just use a numnah instead and they are fine.

They always rub my horse during coat change. However, anything rubs him at this time! So during that time I switch to the Lemieux Sensitive pad with sheepskin border. Love that pad for those times!

I also make sure to pull my pad up into the gullet/channel of my saddle.

I bought my first ever matchy matchy set :D and was gutted that the binding rubbed my horse too. I was advised to wash with a fabric conditioner but it still rubbed so I sold it and have bought good old half wool Nuumeds instead. I just wish they did them in nice colours too. I believe its a common thing to happen.

Any rub marks will more than likely be made by a saddle no fitting correctly. You may need to get it looked at, reflocking etc. We've used Le Mieux for years |& never had any isues with them.

Mine rubs no where near where the saddle is so it's not always saddle fit, it's often because of how fine the coat is as it only happens in the summer.

Unrelated to the main topic of the thread but I was looking at the Nuumed half wool ones for my mare who can be a little sensitive backed. Do they affect the saddle fit at all? I k ow the website says they are unlikely to but what your experience with it?

Ive used them for years with no problem. I bought direct from Nuumed as they did a couple of colours other than black, brown and white lol and tbh the wool isnt as thick as my older ones. Please dont quote me but I dont think these would affect the fit, my older ones may slightly as they are definitely thicker, although Ive never had any problems. I did wait weeks for delivery but so far Im very happy with them. I bought burgundy and Navy.

Thanks. Got saddler out next week anyway so will get their opinion on them. Currently using a plain nuumed one and love it ?

They are absolutely known for it, despite your personal experience. Sure, a wagging saddle will nearly always cause rubbing, but mild rubbing is possible from a pretty well-fitting saddle, especially in the spring when the coat has yet to be replaced with the summer coat and the horse is narrower often as not, causing very slight instability. Not always needing to rush out and get the saddle reflocked or narrowed, but if the rubbing is more serious then yes, absolutely.

Spray the binding and the back of the horse with some silicone based spray such as 'mane & tail' or furniture polish. Make sure numnah is pulled up in to channel of saddle. Voila...no rubs.
