On the way to the yard today I stopped off at a Co-op on an estate where our taxes keep them in Silk cut and white stripe (get the picture ?) There was a young lad, very loud but harmless obviously out to impress his new girlfriend (the first one that he wasn't related to no doubt) and eventually after telling the whole shop about his life he announced that "xmas isn't in his category if you know what I mean" in the customary Jamaican accent. I asked him if he was black which obviously confused him as he was white and asked why he spoke in that accent, I then told him to pull his trousers up as they were down by his knees - what is that all about or am I just getting old ???
As I left the shop he was talking (annoying) someone else and I heard him say "its lemon innit" (pronounced limon) and when the guy asked what was 'limon' he replied 'limon sorbet'. My question is - what the flippin heck is lemon sorbet ryhming slang for ???????

Mince pie for getting this far.

I agree with yr points, especially about the trousers, could it be a way of saying he thought your opinion to him was 'sour'?

Hahahahaaaa! :D Haven't any of these white boys heard of Vanilla Ice? Surely that would put them off acting like this, he had to have been one of the most uncool people going? Those trousers were in fashion when I was a slip of a girl, we used to call them 's**t catchers'. Next time tell him to pull his s**t catchers up and see how cool he thinks he is then! I wonder what west indian people think of their accent being 'urban' and 'trendy'? No one puts on Nigerian or South African accents, do they? I'm Irish and I think I would fall about laughing if some one put on an Irish accent just o be 'cool'. And yes, it does happen - some men think they are irresistable with an Irish accent. Although it seems to work in Boston. :D

Yuk!!

I blame N Dubz and the like for the ridiculous accent and stupid trousers! The caps balanced on the top of the head are awful too!

Sometimes theres an answer to a question that you don't really want to find out - this is one of those times innit ! Tho to be honest looking at him, I think it was something he'd heard about from his mates. With that thought in my mind I'm off to carve my roast pork yum.........

You DO get white people with Jamaican accents though. Many years ago the wife of the landlord of a local pub had a broad Jamaican accent but was fair skinned (and bleached blonde). She had been born and brought up in Jamaica.

I used to work with a chef who was a white Jamaican but you can tell the difference between soemone speaking with their own accent and someone who puts it on to make themselves look cool.
