I'm surprised there wasn't a post on this, perhaps I missed it but its worth alerting people to.

On Keith Lemon's show 'Lemonaid' on Saturday evening, a pug puppy was given to a parent and child pairing who were 'not in a position to buy a pup' after a short agility style relay. If you feel this was inappropriate, you may wish to make a complaint to Ofcom. The show can be seen on ITV player, the puppy bit starts after the first break.

Not really sure what else to write, except that I was completely disgusted :(

I must admit when I saw the programme I was disgusted like you but on another forum it said the contestants were sounded out about wanting a puppy which they all did. I couldnt help feeling sorry for the poor little Pug which was so cute and If I was a breeder I definately wouldnt have sold them a puppy. Personaly I couldnt imagine a responsible breeder selling a puppy in this situation and then that beggars the question who did they buy it from.

Even though all the contestants wanted a puppy I still feel it was in very bad taste and I wont be watching anymore.

I wholeheartedly agree with what you've said. If they aren't in a position to buy a pup, are they really able to look after one, feed, vets, insurance etc. I shall have a look a little later and email/write to them. Stupid thing to do on a programme, (or anywhere else for that matter) I know how much a pup can cost because we have a 9 week old lab boy here. Food alone is not cheap, if, like me, you try to buy the very best you can afford. Then there are jabs and microchipping, neutering when he's old enough and insurance. He is so worth it though, such a cute and funny little lad.

But of course the new owner probably won't neuter it, they'll probably use their KC Registered (even though the breeder broke KC rules by allowing the pup to be given as a prize) to make themselves some money

I thought the breeder needs hauling over the KC coals and the breed club ought to have very strong words with them.

Unfortunately it is not against the law to give animals as prizes to anyone over the age of 16 or anyone with parental agreement!

Poor puppy, I wonder how long it will be before we see the puppy on ePupz? so sad

I have to admit due to my own bad taste  myself and OH really enjoy his programmes....

But i was so shocked to see a real puppy being given away, the whole time i was just presuming at the end of the task they would just come out with a toy puppy or something.....never expected to see a 7 week old pug in his hands!:( Very shocking and even though they 'say' all homes were vetting etc etc still gives a very bad view to people of how easy it is to get a puppy and therefore how easy it is to give away that puppy IMO rather than it being a lifetime commitment. Pretty disapointed TBH

Technically, I think the mum was the breeder and it was allegedly an 'accidental' mating (although weirdly, filmed). I wonder therefore if the sire and dam were health tested appropriately if the intention  was not to breed.

I see Peter Andre also bought one of the litter. Sinks even further down in my estimation.

Didn't Peter Andre's pug come from Battersea Dogs Home? I'm sure there was footage of him collecting it from there on his telly programme

Recently? The blog (which could be a fabrication, but most of it has been looked at by various people and seems genuine) claims that he bought one of the same litter..? Am obviously happy to be corrected.

Oh, I don't know! I have to say I don't watch much reality telly, it's just what I heard from various sources. I'm probably very wrong!

I emailed ITV and was given the standard reply, which is below, so I've emailed back but I'm sure they don't care or they wouldn't have done it in the first place
:(

Dear Marie

Thank you for your email regarding Keith Lemon’s Lemon Aid.

The item you saw was based around a child’s dream coming true to have a puppy and all the contestants involved expressed the desire to own a puppy regardless of the show.

All three families that took part were serious about wanting a dog to join their family as they said on screen. Behind the scenes an independent, qualified vet visited their home in advance of the show to conduct a thorough check before the re-homing process, to ensure that each family understood the commitment and responsibility involved.

Each vet wrote a written report to confirm that the environment the puppy would live in was an appropriate and safe one.

We hope that reassures you.

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch with us

Yours sincerely,

Karen

Peter Andre has charlie pug but also bought a little black pug off the girl aswell. If it was so accidental then why would you have 2 entire pugs in the same household?

And there were three puppies of different breeds just in case?! Such a poor idea to show this, it's no way to acquire a pup. :( Think one of the losing pairs bought the one they would have won. So inappropriate. :(

For the life of me I cannot imagine an "accidental" mating between two pugs, they are`nt the most "adept".It bothered me that a small breed was allowed to be put into it`s new home at only seven weeks, they are so tiny and vulnerable at that age.Poor little dog.
