Lending your horsebox to friends

QR - i have a little lorry that i LOVE, but if i could make a friend in need happy, i'd lend it to them without a doubt. i realise that my lorry is quite old, and could go wrong. but i'd only lend it to someone i trusted to look after it, and who'd cover any damage done as a result of them driving it. i wouldn't expect them to fix something eg gearbox because again, i'd trust them to drive it carefully so if that went wrong i'd presume it was general wear and tear (and be relieved it hadn't happened whilst i was driving!)

i guess i might hope that they'd be grateful to me, and help me out if i needed it in future.

also, it's better for my little lorry to have little journeys, and the odd whizz about than it is for it to sit and get rusty.

You sound like an excellent borrower CMT :)

Darn posts are messing about again

I am and not being big headed about that in the slightest :) I can't stress enough about how embarassed and ashamed I would be if something happened the trailer and like I said if anything did happen it, it would be fixed to a high standard . No "temporary fix" . It would be sorted out properly and left how it was before ! If not better . Hubby likes things done properly as do I . Like I said .... it would be looked after like it was my own . I certaintly wouldn't be taking things for granted and appreciate someone elses property .

:)

Absolutely not. Never!

I wouldn't want to set the precedent and have someone expecting me to offer the use of my trailer whenever they wished, which I paid out to buy and pay to keep on the road safely.

I go for the theory, and I don't mean to offend, that if someone can't afford to hire or buy a trailer/lorry of their own, then what are the chances of them being able to afford to repair any damage they or their horse might do yours?

I use my trailer most weekends and cannot afford (from an inconvenience point of view) to have it off the road for repairs that may be caused by someone else's use of it.

That said, if someone had a horse that desperately needed to get to vet hospital in an emergency, I would offer to take them if they asked. I still wouldn't lend out my trailer, but I would be willing to physically chaperone them by driving them there myself. The last thing someone who doesn't tow often needs is to hitch up someone's trailer and drive in an anxious state with their beloved horse/pony to the vets.

I lent my trailer out once, never again. It was to move a pony from a field ina hurry. The trailer came back with a broken jockey wheel and they hadn't even cleaned it out. Never said a word about damage or thanked me. Just unhitched and dumped it back in middle of the yard.
