Er sorry, this comes from the person who bred a foal out of a mare with unknown breeding!?!?! Ummm don't contradict yourself love.
 
Having a walker, I wouldn't use one to start your horse back to work IMO. Like others have said it's all circles and they can go absolutely crazy on them!

I have to say, if an unknown poster came on and said they had a youngster who had gone lame because she couldn't stand up to light schoolwork and a bit of jumping and xc schooling, so they were going to breed her instead, I think they would probably get a rather different reception.

I understand that horses do go lame, and I don't think that is a reason not to breed them, if its from a fluke accident - but I would be worried, if as MH says its because the mare has been doing eventing schooling rather than just being a show pony - as we all know that MH would never push a horse too hard, I would be concerned if she couldn't physically cope with the work she was doing.

Anyway, I don't think for a second that MH would breed a horse that wasn't suitable, and I am sure that in this case, the decision has been made with a great deal of care.

When I said that if she had been produced as a show pony then I didnt think there would be a problem, it was because she isnt lame as in one leg, obvious lameness- just footy in both fronts. If she wasnt jumping etc then dont think she would really have much of a problem, in that not many people would notice there was something wrong, or worry about it.

However, everyone knows how particular I am about my horses soundness and I cannot work a horse that I know isnt 100% right. (Just how I am and not asking for views on that!)

I could sell her tomorrow as a riding pony as she looks sound to most people, but is just short in front. She would probably even pass a 5stage vetting! My conscience just wouldnt be happy doing this!


Anyway, if she had turned out to have something like navicular or other bony changes then she would not be bred from, end of.

But my mare of unknown breeding has excellent limbs, straight legs and good conformation. Had she had a conformational fault, no I would not have bred from her whether the mare was excellent breeding or unknown breeding.

How, pray tell, is that contradicting myself? I did not once state that it was because the mare was of unknown breeding, I was referring to possible injuries which can result from bad conformation.

I also have a 2 year old who has been the highest scoring yearling then the highest scoring 2 year old at the venue two years in a row at the BEF Futurity. The gelding achieved 9.75 for his vetting so I think I made a good choice, don't you!

And for the record, I would breed out of this mare time and time again because she has produced such a cracking eventer type... OK, dam line is unknown, but I do not think 'named' breeding is everything. I just look at Toytown and realise that there are some diamonds which come from unknown breeding
