Lesser of Two Evils?

As of tomorrow my stressy TB is being forced to be in a field on his own with a large hedge between him and any other horses as his field mate is moving. So much for 4 weeks notice.

This is because there are a lack of geldings at our yard that are turned out and the ones that do get turned out go on their own.

We have tried to come up with solutions but have nothing that YM is happy to do:

- not allowed to fence off a bit of another field as he might escape and kick another horse (he won't as he's quite timid)
- not allowed to get a pony from the pony field and borrow one for company just until we get some more liveries
- not allowed to turn out in small pony field as it's too small to accommodate him
- moving yards isn't an option at this time

My RI has offered for us to borrow her 13.2 to back and sell on and hopefully get back the money it will cost in livery fees, £180 a month is a bit steep for us (includes ad-lib hay and shavings) we can manage our TB on this price but might struggle with another. My dad is also very against getting a second pony.

So the only thing that seems feesable unless I can get some money together for 13.2 to come and stay is turn out on own where he will turn himself inside out or leave him in his stable which won't work either as there will be nothing else around so he'll stress.

Which is the lesser of two evils?

Any ideas or solutions which won't cost me £180 a month are much appreciated. Sorry for huge essay.

I really don't know, sorry. I do think your YM's attitude is outrageous though. She is compromising your horses's welfare by not finding an alternative companion.

Her attitude is ridiculous, we're currently looking for a new yard but we'd rather stay as it's so stressful both for my horse and myself to move. Especially as he only moved 3 months ago and again 3 months before that so I think a third moth is too much.

Tomorrow I'll sit in the field with him and if he gets bad bring him in and hopefully the hay will help.

I also worry because last time he was left on his own (3 years ago now) he got his leg trapped in some wire and was almost PTS for it as it went right to the bone.

Can one of the mare owners not turn theirs out with him for a while?
Your YM sounds like a nightmare... I get the ideas behind single-sex, separated sizes and so forth but at the end of the day these are herd animals!

Nope none are happy to do that as it will 'disrupt the mares herd.'

I understand the reasoning of him not going in small pony field as there really isn't enough room in there but all the other options are feasible.
He isn't nasty in the field and has no back shoes on. He does however like to have a good gallop which I think is putting people off putting horses with him. I think that there's nothing nicer than watching your horse let off some steam in the field.
