Am i just the luckiest person - or jammie at least ? My horse is kept at a private yard where the owner is a world class trainer with an incredible cv. The man is a genius, and I am lucky enough to have his help/advice whenever needed. I am leisure rider, but he always has the time to pop out and give me a few pointers here and there. Last night he came out and must have spent about half an hour with me and the difference in my horse was AMAZING. All he focussed on was me relaxing my back and not using my hips too much and hey presto, a beautiful walk. Then concentrated on my pony not hollowing when going into trot. Took a few tries but got there eventually. God I was so amazed ! What annoys me is that i have spent a fortune over the years on lessons off supposed BHS Instructors who i have trusted to 'know their stuff'. One instructor always used to tell me to shorted my reins to the point of half strangulating my pony. I always knew he hated it, but you can't argue with an instructor (who is also a dressage judge i might add!!!). Last night I had barely any contact at all, yet with my relaxed riding, he relaxed, and then he dropped head and worked beautifully in an outline - with almost no contact. AMAZING ! My pony must have been so much happier with it. Has a riding instructor even been made a saint ? Can there be a first.

Muddywellies, I've always said that if you can find someone who makes that much difference to your riding and your horse's way of going and whom you trust, then it is worth paying whatever it takes - even if you can only use them infrequently! He sounds amazing - perhaps a little pressie as a thank you (bottle/box of chocs) might help smooth the way to more assistance? Lucky you to have found him - I hope you continue to get lots of help from this wonderful person
