I've just remembered I have to teach tomorrow morning and have gone blank blank blank on what I can do?!? I'm teaching a group of about six quite capable 12-14yr olds and feel like I've done everything fun I can think of (I'm always the fun lessons, mum is the serious point your toes in the right direction lessons) We've got a x-c course with banks, ditches etc, a jumping lane, a sand school with basic show jumps - any ideas? Please?!?! Pretty please?!

Utility jumping - basically grid work with no reins, then no stirrups, then both! Works wonders on seat and position, get them doing something different with their arms over each fence: out to the side, hands on head, hands behind back, hands towards ears etc etc.

second the jumping with no reins etc idea. Also good to get them to carry plastic cups of water in one hand down a small grid - I did this with a similar age group. Most of them lost all the water by the end tho!

They also love drill riding - you know where you get them splitting into two rides - riding in pairs etc etc... teach them a few moves - stick on the music and start calling moves out - is really fun

apart from that - is always fun jumping skinnys and jumps on angles

'World Championships'
don't know if they still do it this way, but in my day, the last four in the Worlds (SJ) had to do the course on each of the four horses. Oh boy that sorted the men from the boys. Might be a bit much to do all six, but two groups of three?
It was always an end of term jolly when I was teaching, and it usually ended up in some surprises.
