£20 for an hour private on own horse with freelance trainer. Not BHS qualified but what do I care. I have two people train me at this price. One advanced BD and theother advanced BE. For me, experience counts - have BHS quals myself and what do I know!
£27 1 hour group lesson on RS horse, if I ride my own horse £16! £30 for half an hour private lesson. Allthough prices vary as you get a discount if you come every week
At home (Wiltshire) it's around £25 for group lesson RS (child, not sure about adult, probs more) and I was paying £20/hour for private on my horse. Sister pays £35 for private but she has a dressage trainer.
BUT, at uni (North Somerset) group lessons seem to be £12-16 most places. That said, the place I went for a while (£11.50/hour) was not very good! Just seems a lot cheaper here.
gosh havent prices gone up!! LAst time i had a riding school lesson about 6 years ago it was £12 or so for a childs group 1hr lesson with qualified instructors.
Nearly 2 years ago i was paying £15 for a half hour private lesson on a riding stable horse.
I know its off topic but i think riding stables should get at least one horse that isnt as quiet as the others as its a huge shock for some people when they go ride other horses. I know it was for me lol, i learnt more riding other peoples horses!
I pay £25 for 30-40 mins, depending on how hard the horse has worked and never more than 40mins as my instructor does not believe in working any longer
Wow prices have gone up! Last lesson I had on a RS horse, about 2 years ago, was £17.
My instructor at our yard charges £22 for a private hour. My SJ trainer charges £15 per half hour.
hi,
i pay £17 for a hour dressage lesson with an advanced dressage judge who also comes to us and will stay longer if needed.
showjump is £25 for an hour and we go to her.

Agree, my RS has a nice mix of horses, from quite horses to bigger more advanced WBs, think its better if they have some that aren't saints, how else do you learn to sit to it?
I pay £25 for an hour with an instructor, who I'm not entirely sure if she is BHS qualified (but I don't really hold that as important any more), but she is out competing regularly.
More importantly I get on with her - I have spent too much money in the past on lessons with instructors that I just don't like. I expect to work harder in a lesson than I would normally, but at the end of the day I ride for fun because I want to, and I expect my instructor to accept that.
With trainer I pay £10 per session on my own horse (session is 1/2 to 1 hour) or £20 on one of hers but she gives me a discount.
At RS I pay £15 fpr half hour on one of theirs or £10 on my own or £25 for one hour on one of theres or £18 for one hour on my own horse. Not sure how much group lessons cost as I dont have them.
Interesting that lesson prices seem to be quite similar nationwide. For livery, prices down near London seem to be double rest of the country. So instructors here not doing so well out of the over-priced south-east

Most of the riding schools I have been to have had a mix of steady and more difficult horses =)
I used to pay £20 for an hours group lesson at a RS
I pay £20 for a group lesson with a BHS qualified instructor on a riding school horse. £27 for a semi private or £29.50 semi private with the yard manager who is a BHSI. Same prices on your own horse unless you are a livery in which case there is a discount for group lessons only. That bit always seems wrong to me but since I don't have my own I don't mind. I do mind that we don't get a discount if taught by a student though....
And currently gutted that my fave instructor has left and now only does freelance.
Interestingly, the guy im now looking at taking lessons with here, trained with the spanish riding school, is completly amazing and he charges 10 pounds per hour :/ Our head rider at the stables whos a GP dressage rider and trains the young rider squad here charges 15 pounds per hour ;p
For a shared lesson I pay £10 and my friend pays £10, that's for a half hour's lesson on our own horses with the YO's daughter. As others have said, I don't think she has BHS quals but she competes at a high level, has loads of experience and we get on really well!
After every lesson I feel that I've come out having learnt something new and that I've improved. Also, me and my friend both have confidence issues when jumping and she comes out to shows with us and helps with that.
