Lesson prices

You can probably expect to pay anything from maybe £20 to..... well easily upwards of £60/70. Depending on who/how far they're travelling/how many they're teaching when they're there.
I'm currently having lessons with 3 people. £30, £37.50 & £75, for 45 mins. The last doesn't even come aaaaaall the way to me but he does clinics very close by which is good enough for me (even if it means I have to spend even more money on transport!)

I teach and charge £25 per hour and extra if I have to travel further than 10 miles.
I normally pay £40 for lessons on my horse and wouldn't pay more unless it Inc arena hire or was on a schoolmaster.

I pay £40 for 1 hour which includes use of my instructors indoor 25x40 with full line of mirrors one end.

I travel to her but have my own transport.

Jumping I pay £25 for 1 hour group (3 people) lesson. Includes use of 20x60 areas and jumps.

Based South East. Both instructors a qualified and one competes successfully internationally.

My dressage instructor is £20 per lesson - but he is only 19 and just starting out his teaching career (despite riding at PSG!).

I have paid more established instructors £40 per lesson - that one trains with Mike Eilberg.

If you want a big fancy name expect to pay upwards of £100 per lesson, maybe even more!

Some instructors charge mileage so always best to try and find someone local to cut down your costs a bit that way. BD list trainers on their website, so I presume if you are looking for a jumping instructor BS and BE might do the same. Post in a local horsey FB group for recommendations if you are struggling to find someone.

I run monthly clinics with a 4* event rider, we have use of a good size indoor school with full set of jumps, a 30min private is £30, 45min private £40, or a shared 45mins is £30 each, this includes arena hire. The trainer travels to us which is just over an hour away from his home, normally a full day clinic is from 10am-7pm

I have lessons with a brilliant 4* rider, and get charged approx £40 for 1hr flatwork, and £30 for 40 min showjumping or 1hr xc lesson which I think is really quite reasonable

I also have lessons at a friends yard, YO gives lessons £12.50 for half hour private flatwork or same price for 45 min jumping with 2 of us. It's brilliant, makes me bopx up and take pony somewhere different on regular basis (is only 20 mins away) and I get cheap lesson in large arena. Teaches him to behave on own and with others

I pay £40 with a 4* event rider but i go to his (far far nicer than mine!) Can be anywhere between 30 mins & an hour depending on what horse & what we need to do :)

My instructor is fab and I can't believe how cheap she is in comparison to other instructors. I pay £24 an hour and she comes to me, often lessons can go over that time as she will work with you until something has been achieved, ending on a high and all that. Wonderful instructor

I pay £50 for a 45 minute lesson who comes to me and she competes at PSG. If I were to travel to her yard the same 'session' would be £35.

A previous instructor was £35/hour competing at Medium and she travelled to me.

I pay £35 a session with my flatwork trainer (she has ridden to GP and was on British YR team in her youth). She comes to me, and there are normally 3 of us who have a lesson (she will come out for 2, but not 1 lesson). Lessons last from 30mins - 1 hour depending on how the horse is going. For jumping I pay £45 for an hour with a 4* eventer (competed at the Olympics back in the day). This it at a local yard and includes arena hire. I think both are very reasonably priced. At the somewhat less experienced end of the scale, I do a small amount of teaching to keep my hand in (I now have a full time non horsey job, but hold my BHSAI and have competed at BE intermediate level). I charge £20 per hour (but this can be flexible depending on how the horse is going), either at my yard or within a 10 mile radius.

£20ph private lessons with my SJ trainer - that's wherever we end up doing the lesson, either at his or if I hire an arena.
RC lessons vary between £19 and £35 depending on whether it's private / group and what venue - i.e. Private dressage is £35, group SJ/XC at Wickstead Horseplay is £35 (90mins group of 4), group SJ elsewhere is £20-25 (hour max 4), group dressage is £19 - £25 (hour 2-5people) depending on trainer and location.

£65 for my usual dressage trainer for 45mins who is a list 2 judge and rides at grand Prix. £45 if I go to her but the extra mileage makes it same price as staying more local and paying arena hire, plus saves me time. £85 for 45mins with Damian Hallam (15 is arena hire) dressage.

Jumping I usually train with Chris Burton 4* and Olympic event rider. I go to his and it's now £70 for 30mins private. Expensive but he is worth it and went out of his way to warm me up at Badminton Grassroots in the pouring rain.

1 instructor is £30 for 45mins-ish and she travels a good half hour each way to me.
Main instructor is £40 for 30 mins, £50 for 45 mins or £60 for an hour. She is a listed dressage judge, bhs I and does a lot of work with byrds. However, more importantly for me she teaches in a way I understand with endless patience, constructive criticism and compliments when it goes right. So for me, money well spent (especially as proof in the pudding, my riding has come on leaps and bounds since having lessons with her). (my bank balance does miss my old instructor who was tougher but still very kind but not so high level and only £25 an hour. Sadly at 120 miles away it's not conducive to still have my lessons with her!)

I'm not competing at moment but when I was I used a local trainer who was £35/45mins + school hire, I travelled to him.
I'd also spend a couple of days back to back with another trainer miles away (and stay over), every 8 weeks ish, they were £70 / 45mins.

At the moment I'm in the lucky position to be having fortnightly lessons on a PSG horse for £40 / 45min . Bargain and I'm really lucky to have this available to me

Where I'm located in NZ we don't have an awful lot of instructors, but a very good one that comes a fair few times a year charges $50, which is 23 pounds. She's awesome, and teaches at our PC (where I graze) and we have access to heaps of jumps.

I'm about to pay £25 for an 45min private with an AI/events at OI and she's got a good half drive to get to me :smile3:

I find it varies wildly depending on the lesson and the instructor. I pay £25 for a 45 minute private lesson with a local instructor at her yard (decent facilities, and hackable distance). She's not a 'name' but she rides BE and is a good, solid instructor who puts a lot of effort and focus into her lessons - including building quite complex courses and jumping exercises.
I then pay £50 for a 4* rider/BHS fellow to teach me for an hour at my yard, which is 2 hours drive from him, and he is booked for a whole day of private lessons so costs include his transport. Alternatively I pay £265 to go to his for a bootcamp weekend including 5 lessons, stabling, etc etc.
I then pay £70 for a GP dressage rider to teach me for 45 mins at a yard an hour's drive away.
I do find private lessons much better value than clinics, which can be a similar price for much lesson one on one attention.
