I usually really look forward to my lessons but not so much tonight as the farmer who owns my yard was combining the fields near the menage. Not right next too but not far away, then they were carting it past the menage, again not right next too but only about 30 metres away. Then when out of sight behind the stables they backed up to empty making a right racket!! I have only had my lad 8 weeks ( exracer) so wasn't sure how he would react. Then to add to it all the shitland from down the road escaped and brought itself onto my yard and because the gates were open for corn carting it took itself off up the field to annoy my boys!! Doubt the tb has ever seen a shitland before!! Que much dancing and snorting!!

Onto the lesson. He really was fab!! One tense moment when he was getting tired, not naughty just tense in his neck. We worked through it and got the lively trot back, relaxed in walk. Amongst all this we started canter work!! Eek!!he is quite lazy and trying to push him into canter resulted in me sometimes loosing my balance. So trainer decided it might work if I adopted a forward xc seat. Worked a treat. I was more secure and balanced. He is very balanced when in canter, it's just getting him into canter!! Was very pleased with him, he held it together!!! I suppose it helps to ride in these situations but it does nothing for my poor old heart!!

Sounds a great lesson :) I have tried a lesson but Frodo was so tense it really wasn't worth it so we are trying again on 22nd August - fingers crossed I get a relaxed walk, I am very envious of that lol!

Hope you get your relaxed walk! I saw your comp post, he is a lovely looking boy!! Please report back after your lesson and share any tips!! I have another lesson at home a week today, then a lesson at a local indoor on the 23rd, so will keep you updated!! Did you mention you were competing again this weekend?

We are going with a friend to a competition venue to have a wander around while she competes this weekend - I didn't think he was quite ready for a 2 phase horse trials :) Yes will definitely pass on any tips after my lesson, Wkiwi on here is also really good and has provided endless advice via PM on how to cope with tense ex-racers. It would be good to see pics of your boy :)
