My lovely tb has always been sooo lazy to school. He is more than capable of doing some lovely work, he just can't be bothered. Then you sometimes get the other side when he has been asked to do something and he worries himself, becomes tense, then you may as well give up!! A couple of proper dressage trainers have made him that worried that neither myself or him gave enjoyed the lessons. In fact I was starting to dread the lesson . He knew, because if I was just going to school on my own he was great, if I was warming up for my lesson he was tense. Asked a local event rider for help. We took him right back to basics , she would ride one wee, me the next. The change in him has been quite dramatic! He is relaxed in his lessons and once past the initial back to basics so she could assess him he has come on in leaps and bounds. Last night he was an absolute joy to watch. She warmed him up using leg yeild and he did it beautifully, she was absolutely delighted as was i! Usually he just slops over. Everything is coming together, slowly, but we are both throughly enjoying it. It makes all the difference finding someone you enjoy working with!

That is excellent - after my instructor has ridden my horse he is just so lovely - he is always lovely and willing and kind, but she just gets that softness and throughness that I cannot get.

Well done, glad you have found what clicks. Is it because eventers "get" TB's?
I think they seem to ride the horse they have on the day. I sometimes think dressage riders, not all obviously, plug and plug away to get something whereas an event rider isn't so caught up on getting it perfect. That's my thought anyway!!
