I am pooing myself.
I am a cr*p rider, with horrifc nerve problems, feet that stick out like a duck coming into land, fat weak legs, a knackered left knee, appauling hands and a tendancy to tip forwards all the time.
I can't always get canter on the right leg, my circles look like eggs and i couldn't see a stride to a jump even if it was stood there with a sign saying "I am a stride".
I have a feeling that my new instructor is going to take one look and run screaming in the opposite direction.

Added to the stress hubby rang this morning and said very uncharacteristically Hovis and Omar have beaten the living daylights out of each other in the field this morning and that Hovis started it.

I am not looking forward to my rider assessment - i have a feeling he's going to tell me to find a new hobby - like knitting or something!

Well you paint a lovely picture of yourself. lol

If you rode perfectly then you wouldn’t need the instructor in the first place. On the plus side you should see a really quick improvement because once those little issues with your position have been ironed out you will look amazing.

Good luck and enjoy it, just remember you are paying them to help you.

You'll be fine

Take that as coming from someone with no confidence, on the large side (so I don't create a nice picture, no matter how correct my position is!) with a knackered left leg, who tips forwards, drops hands and panics if you even mention the word "canter".

Honestly, as long as you listen and try do what your instructor is telling you, they'll be happy to teach you. Far better to teach someone who needs improving and wants to work at it, than someone who is perfect and won't listen!

Plus, you're probably like me and think your riding is far worse than it really is.

Good luck, relax, and enjoy it

Well if he does, he's not a very good instructor. It's his job to increase your confidence. I'm sure you'll be fine and you'll be posting a happy update after the lesson. I'm looking forward to that, and to Hovis's take on it

I can really sympathise!! I used to feel really worried before a lesson with a new instructor and still have a lot of nerves, but OH kept saying 'Remember YOU are paying HER to teach you so there is nothing to worry about. If she is rude or unkind tell her to piss off!' I also made myself sign up for loads of clinics with different people and that helped a lot.

I am sure the new instructor will be lovely and helpful but if no fire her (or him)!!!

You sound just like me.I have found a lovely instructor though and so will you.Agree with everyone else, YOU are employing him/her not the other way round.

"Agree with everyone else, YOU are employing him/her not the other way round. "

What great advice never thought of it like that before!

I'm sure you're nowhere near as bad as you think you are and your new instructor will be lovely. Just remind yourself that she/he is NOT the enemy and is there to help you, not reduce your confidence to smithereens.
Good luck! Hope we get a report

I'm sure you'll be fine, as previous posters have said you're having a lesson to improve yourself, so I'm sure that the instructor won't be criticising just trying to improve you.
A good instructor will make you buzz and think 'I can do it' and give you enough oomph and enthusiasm to finish the lesson on a real high feeling you can achieve something, and for you to be able to go away and confidently practise what you've learnt afterwards.

oh don't worry- i'm sure you aren't as bad as you think you are

i always get nervous before having new instructors but they are always (one notable exception alone) really nice and you come away with new stuff to try and lots of confidence. if you were perfect you wouldn't need lessons so they won't be expecting you to be perfect! if they aren't positive then sack them and try someone else

Blimey I thought you were describing me then! I bet you are much better than you think, and I'm sure the instructor will be very helpful and understanding and you'll really enjoy it!

I know why you're nervous though, it wouldn't be normal if you weren't - hope it goes well.
