Hey, I'm really hoping someone may be able to give me some advice... I'm relatively new to Northern Ireland and have been bringing on my very green mare at home. It's got to the stage where I can't progress any further without some professional teaching but I have no idea where to go for lessons- can anybody help? I'm based near Cookstown, Co Tyrone. Thanks!

Have you tired the BHS Instructor register or word of mouth - local feed merchants/tack shops/ go to local shows and ask around there. I think there are some active riding clubs around the Cookstown area as well - the Farm Week is another source of good info for the Northern Ireland horsey round up each week.

You are a bit too far from me unfortunately

but you can come and stay at weekends and bring your horse with you like other people do

Otherwise I would suggest joining a local riding club (they are quite active round you) and looking at the BHS Ireland and Northern Ireland Riding Clubs Liaison Committee websites, as both organisations run regular training days, clinics and camps (this week we have Carl Hester, Donald Kear and Patrick Print doing clinics in NI!). Both the BHS and NIRCLC run camps at Necarne, BHS do several in June/July time and the Liaison ctte do spring, summer and autumn camps.

Hope this helps!

Your not that far from me dazedandconfused ...Im near magherafelt .

The lady that is up in beech hill stables is hopefully coming to me tomorrow , Shes an AI instructor, I also have a young mare , So shes hopefully going to give me a good going over on flatwork .

Otherwise I would definitely recommend Mrs Rowreach above me there

Do you have a school/facilities at home, or do you want to travel to a riding school/pro yard to get tuition. EIther way (as suggested) a riding club could be your first step to make horsy friends in your area and get some training.

This is the Northern Ireland riding club liaison website...

I am guessing that Moy RC or Strule Valley RC would be your closest, though my geography west of the Bann gets a bit sketchy.

Hope this helps.

Hi there, I'm from just outside Cookstown originally. Moy riding club are really quite good and there are a number of good trainers in and around Cookstown, Dungannon etc. Drop me a PM with what you are looking for and I can soon put you in touch with a few people :-)
