Is anyone elses horse a bit like this at the moment??? He is fine in himself but just has no energy when ridden...now don't get me wrong he can be a lazy so and so at the best of times, but I seem to be struggling to get him going. He comes back from a 3 mile hack looking all tired and yawning!!!!
Do you think it could be weather related and that he has started to shed his coat? Don't want to give him feed because I am trying to get some winter weight off him and he is a good doer Welsh who does not need anything going to his head either!

I know alot of horses who have had virus's lately.

I woul dget him checked out, he may need a bit of time off and some antibiotics or something

I would say hes either battling something like a virus tbh.
Unsure if horses can suffer with S.A.D?
TBH i find at this time of year my horses are bonkers and hard to sit too. I have a yard full of complete loons! and i only have 2 in full work!!!!

Personally if you arent already doing so, i would buy some pro-biotics like Biotal or Naf Pink Powder add this to feed (hi fi lite if you are worried that hes gaining too much weight) and make sure your horse is kept warm and given adlib hay in the field and or stable.

If you worried tho, i would contact your vet for advice.

My SFP (Small Fat Pony) has a handful of hi fi light with the recommended amount of a vit/min supplement all winter. There is nothing in the grass now so he could be lacking some nutrients?

Well his temperature is normal so I did not think it would be a virus and he is well, eating etc as usual too.
Clodagh...yes he has a handful of Hi Fi at night with Benevit supplement so he should be okay on the vit/mins front...
But I will keep an eye on him and see how we go.

Very good point.

My advice would be to get your vet in to check him over and take a blood test. Also worm him using a wormer for encysted small red worms.

My horse is exactly the same bearing in mind she is a WB that is in at the moment and only goes out to be ridden. You lunger her and she can be wild, however with mum on board she is too much of an angel! More like lazy and refusing to work

my tb is the same at the moment - he's never the most forward going however he's been getting oats and Staypower for the last 3/4 weeks with no effect. He did have a runny nose a few weeks ago but his condition and temp etc are fine now. Spoke to my vet today and he has recommended Blood Liquid/Propell etc and if no change after that then we will do blood tests.

He is also on D&H Ultimate Balancer so Vits and Mins shouldnt be a prob.

Yeah blood liquid type products worked for pickle. vet advises me to give it too him whenever he seems to suddenly lack in energy (I can tell when he needs it and when he is just being a lazy sod!)
