Let's hear about your Golden Oldies .... and see who is the oldest ...

Banana (my dun) is 29, still does 10-25 mile pleasure rides, hunted last Boxing Day, played polo until end of 2006 summer season. Loses weight in winter but picks up as soon as spring comes!

A mere teenager in comparison to some on here but this wee man is almost 23, and from what I can work out has taught lots of children to ride. He's got a whole new career ahead of him, he'll be clipped out, slimmed down, fittened up a bit, kitted out in proper attire... he's going to try for the VHS classes next season, do some hunting this coming season and he's started jumping again too which he LOVES!

April is 23!

I started riding her 3 years ago after she had been retired in the field for a few years due to no-one wanting to put up with her bad behaviour. She was a poor miserable old soul who hated everyone and used to chase me around the stable lol.

Took a while but now I get on great with her and she has turned out really sweet!
Is still up for everything and still goes to unaff SJ, DR and some X country now and again.
She is a fab little horse, I love her to bits and I'm glad I can give her some fun in her old age!

She sometimes gets a little light in the winter but this is her last month:

Aww thanks!

Her leaps look worse then they are... they are ok on the flat but she also loves to do them mid jump which was terrifying in her blimmin slightly dressage cut saddle.

Recently got a nice GP saddle with knee rolls for extra stickability so am hoping to stay on more LOL

Yeah that's him, he's in all my siggie pics except the second one. Have posted before but not logged on in AGES lol. Gotta b proud of the Oldies. Banana is doing his first veteran class on Sunday, wish us luck!

i ride a 25 year old IDxTB who can only walk with the occasional trot as she has COPD and some arthritis, however when we are out hacking, we leave the 15 year old cob for dust, as we walk very quickly and she can still spook violently and drag me across the field.
I've fallen off her twice in walk

!
sometimes if the weather is perfect we have a little canter where we have huge bucking fits
laugh.gif

shes my angel

This is Cherry - she was my first pony and I had owned her for 25 years when she died at 30. She was 14.2hh and a little cracker when she was younger - did loads of PC things with her, hunted and she would literally jump anything. She was an absolute superstar and I still miss her now.

I share Ellie a Welsh Section D who is 28 and still competes at the local RC doing dressage and jumping up to 2' 3" on occasion
laugh.gif

We were at the Kenilworth Agricultural Show a while back and in the veterans class was a lovely 41 year old who won it

This is the lovely (but grumpy
tongue.gif
) Misty. Reckoned to be around 28/29 years old. I don't own her, I just ride her.

The boy in the background is Caesar, an ex-racehorse in his mid 20s. Who says you can't keep weight on thoroughbreds?!
tongue.gif

These two boys are Noggin (the dark brown one) and Misty (this time a gelding!) Noggin is his his 20s, still be ridden and Misty is about 34. Again, I believe he is an ex-racehorse

There are some wonderful horses here, and obviously so much loved and well cared for!

Marius is 'only' 23 - if he lives to be 30 odd I will be mucking out in my 70s!

My mare is 31, was strong to lead out of her stable this morning and cantering round her field when I turned her out. Im sure she could be ridden with a suitable weight rider.

Not "old" by many of those in this thread, but Star is 22 and been with me 11 years

Full credit must go to april's owners who took her on when no one else would have touched her with a ten foot pole.
I actually would dread to think where she might have ended up if she hadn't landed with people patient enough to work her through her mental issues!

Just goes to show though that horses can be damaged/neglected emotionally as well as physically!
If i can give her some fun in her old age and let her get over her miserable time then it's brilliant.

I am loving seeing all these posts from people who still cherish their oldies.
There's nothing worse than people who lose interest in them once they are past there usefulness and sell them on to god knows where or leave them in a field to fend for themselves without all the careful management that they often need (and deserve!)

my old girlie was approaching her 50th birthday ast year-she was pts because she dropped weight and i didnt want to 'wait and see' if she picked up againas she was well(had been almost round until then)
she was retired at 39 as all she iked was jumping.she never had a lame day in her life.still miss her so much

This is bumble, he is 36 rising 37. Still ridden and loves it (he is still the pony that canters off with a kid when he is only supposed to be trotting!!)
He still lives out 24/7 in all weathers!

My old boy is 25(15.3hh Irish TB). I've had him since 1992. We've grown up together really, and I'm dreading the day I have to find another. He still gets ridden a couple of times a week, although godness knows how he's not crippled after suffering 2 fractures in the past. He's always been as saintly as a horse could be but over the last 3 years he's got naughtier and naughtier! He has to come in from the field on a chifney and is now the devil incarnate to ride.........but I love him......and I think he loves me too......

Sleepy boy

When he was younger he had two fratures, at different times I hasten to add! Both from kicks in the field, but he's as hard as nails and came back fighting fit and carried on eventing and pony clubbing.

The drip photo comes from the worst week of my life, he got some sort of toxic colic and it was slowly closing down his organs on by one. To this day the vet said he has no idea what was really wrong with him. But James being James decided that it wasn't his time, we kept him at home, nursed him there and now, 2 years on he's as fighting fit as ever!

And yes I'm obsessive about his bed as he really sleeps alot!
