There are good yard owners out there, I have one. She doesn't charge silly money, she will help if needed without silly charges. I am on assisted DIY as and when needed, the assisted bit that is. She will give good advice if I have any concerns about my boy and is supportive.

I was in the arena this am and she gave me a lot of advice, read impromtu lesson, in a constructive, non critical way.

All the horses on the yard are laid back and calm. They range from small ponies to horses that are eventing.

We hear so much about 'difficult' YO's thought it would be nice to have a positive thread.

It's lovely that you've posted a positive thread, and I for one appreciate it :) but from past experience of these threads you'll only get a few responses - whereas if you posted a YO bashing thread you'd get pages :(

Seriously, the anti-YO mentality on here has been one of the reasons I have practically given up having liveries (after 20 years of it). You'll never keep everyone happy all the time, however hard you try, and frankly I am so so tired of trying :(

My YO is fantastic! She cares so well for my boy, rides out with me, gives me help and advice on my riding and all sorts, and answers all my stupid questions! I am a very lucky livery :D

Yep, me too! My YO has helped me loads with Boris... would be interesting to see a YO post a thread about nightmare liveries... again I'm sure there would be LOADS! ;)

Delightful young woman owns yard where I share a horse. She has great people skills as well as excellent equine knowledge - sometimes a rare combination! I genuinely like and admire her. I feel welcome there (again something that be a rarity if you're a sharer) and know horses are well looked after. She gives great lessons, too. Is that enough praise?!? I have actually told her this, too, maybe not quite so gushingly, but it's worth pointing out to the good ones that they are doing a good job.

I will never be able to thank my current YO enough:D She has been amazing, and we will miss her lots. Would recommend her yard to anyone!

I'd like to add my voice to this thread!

The ladies who own and run our yard are fantastic!

I just wouldn't have bought daughter a pony without their support.

They always help us, and even put up with my mithering and worrying over nothing, without making me feel daft.

They teach me things (taught me to sew plaits in last week!) and give daughter fantastic instruction and advice, and support her 100%.

I'd be lost without them, and I like to consider them our friends.

RM :)

My YO is fantastic too! I am on DIY but she will happily turn out or bring in for me, treat injuries to horse and give lots of helpful advice. She brings tea and biscuits too!

My yo is fab too. The horses happiness and welfare are her 1st priority, and keeping us owners happy is the next on the list. As a result we have happy chilled out horses that live to a ripe old age, and a majority of the time everyone on the yard rubs along quite happily. I would hate to have to leave the yard.

Mines lovely, always goes out of there way to make sure the horses are ok. If a horse isn't on the list to be brought in but its going to be left its always brought in if it needs something done, its done and too the highest standard.
She had took delivery of the trophys for events this year today and she had gone out of her way (and expense) to get beautiful ones.

Mine are fantastic. Older farming couple, couldn't ask for nicer yo's. People only move off if either they move far away or sell up, if not you're there for the rest of your horses life. Just recently after a few minor repairs we've had new post & rail, & fence wasn't bad at all. Told the Mrs had to dash as daughter said she felt unwell, she said 'bring her in, i'll mind her while you muck out'

As a YO it is nice to have a positive thread and it is good to have liveries that appreciate when help is offered, my liveries are great and always take an interest in what is going on in the yard, for example they will check all the horses are ok when getting their own in and I know they would deal with anything amiss, not just ignore it.

Thanks janah:D:D:D

We should start an YO Appreciation Day! I think it can often be a hard and unrewarding job, which makes the good ones who are out there even more special. D'you think Hallmark would be interested in a range of 'Best YO in the World' cards?!

when my horse was PTS recently - YO went with me to the hunt so that i wouldnt have to drive myself back - was so kind of her as she was upset too & she and her family have kindly loaned me one of their horse to fill the gap in my life:)

Mine could not be more perfect. Very experienced and kind and will give me any advice if I ask but not if I don't. She will lend me any equipment - hates me spending money.

Lets my gelding live out because that's what I want but if it has been a very hurricaney/blizzardy night apologises for bringing him in because he was hanging round the gate asking for shelter. She treats him like one of her own.

I am going to be keeping horses with her forever - I have warned her!

I am on a very small yard & YO knows very little about horses, his wife is the one who's horsey. He cannot do enough to make everything go smoothly & keep everyone happy. He grades the school before he goes to work in the morning & will if he hears you are having a lesson will grade it prior to that.

He looks after the paddocks, regularly empties the muck trailer & the security at the yard for both horses & tack is first class. He keeps on top of any maintenance, doesn't go for the cheapest option but always thinks things through & goes for the best option. I've told him that there's only one thing wrong with the yard..........& that is we don't own it.

Both he & his wife appreciate what they have & want to share it with the liveries. They consider themselves very lucky to have it & live there. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to livery there. I cannot see us ever moving, walking through the gate onto the yard is like entering Narnia! :)
