15.3hh 9yo. TB gelding. Was in race training, never made it to the track. Hobdayed. Racing passport and therefore official name and breeding have 'gone missing' at some point

Has played some polocrosse, but on the whole very low mileage in all respects.
Fairly nappy and VERY spooky to ride, though good to handle in all respects (box, clip, shoe, worm etc). Snaffle mouthed. Very one sided and stiff. Bending to the inside - what's that?! Feet (as you can see in the pic

) currently rubbish and scarring to NH hock, which I forgot to take a pic of!
Can jump, though style doesn't come into it. Been hunting once for a couple of hours.
Wormed (as of yesterday!) and vaccinated up to date.

So.... I want you to :-

A) Tell me what you think he is worth
B)Tell me what price you think he is being advertised for (by his owners, not myself!!!)

Disclaimer: He arrived a couple of days ago and is NOT mine. The farrier is coming asap, among other things that need addressing, such as his unlevel pelvis, teeth and his godawful mane and tail!

Keep the guesses coming peeps, and don't worry at all about offending me. He's not mine and never will be! He's with me for a crash course in learning to canter on the correct leads and to take up a contact with out flipping his top and attempting to break teeth/noses.

In his defence he's the sweetesty horse I've ever worked with, and I'm thrilled with his progress.

ETS: his current owners have had him for a year and cantered him around on the wrong leg for the entire time, which contributes massively to his one sidedness. The girl is 14, and has basically let him get away with murder re. his napping and spooking. It seems so far though that he was just desperately wanting some groundlines set out for him. As long as he knows what is/isn't acceptable he is a dream.

Can't see the pics -PC at work will never show them - but I would say worth £1k tops, and owners probably asking £3500?

We had a great horse on our yard earlier this year, in good condition etc but had done b****r all, owner asked £9.5K for it

Talk about PMSL - how do people get to these figures?

£600 is what I would say he is worth. I paid £300 for a similar mare who has not been hobdayed, has wetherby's passport, has good feet, clean legs and is 100% bombproof in traffic (and I thought that was expensive!)

I'll guess they are trying to get £2500 - as a realistic stupid price, if you see what I mean...

Ok just to help Bounty out. He came from my yard originally and we had him straight from the track. He has always had to be kept shod on a 4 - 6 week basis preferably every 4 weeks. Can be nappy if he has more than 1 day off consecutively. Used to be very soft on the mouth, would sliding stop and 180/360 on both reigns with no problems. Wasn't particulary spooky on our farm, but had been based on it since coming out of racing. Has a lovely nature but is desperatly in the need for work all the time. Good luck with this one Bounty you know what I think . . .

Whats hobdayed?

It's an operation performed on horses who have paralysis of the left side of the larynx which restricts their breathing. Quite common in race horses - it involves lasering the tissue so that scar tissue builds up over the top and makes the larynx more stable so it doesn't block the airway. The down side is that these horses should be fed from the floor and kept in a dust free environment at all times - their larynx can't close properly so they are more prone to COPD, choke etc.

Agree with you all about his current value. Let me at him for a while and I can rectify the situation a bit, but unfortunately I only have him with me for 2/3 weeks - but hopefully with a view to getting him a much better home, and not for the asking price!

The owners are asking £3,900 for him, and shockingly someone actually took him out on trial at this price, as a safe hack.

The world has gone mad!

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. Look what u can get for £3900 on any horsey classifieds, that price was deluded. All the same I hope he comes good and someone takes him on and loves him !

Ummmm, Bounty I have to say, sorry, but this post isn't especially wise if it compromises the owners selling him (or trying to)...

I'd be really careful if I were you. You may want to get it removed.

I was reading the thread and wondering when someone was going to say why on earth are you writing this. Very unprofessional IMO. I hope they aren't paying you and I hope they never see this post. If I had a horse I wanted to sell after reading this I would never send it to you in case you also ripped my horse to shreds.
