They look to be having so much fun! Several years ago we were walking in Wales and heard several dogs "screaming". When we rounded the corner it was a group of huskies being attached to their wheeled sled. I have never seen dogs so excited they were desperate to go. It was a lovely sight
Oh they live for it mine go absolutely mad screaming their heads off the moment they see their harnesses or that they are even heading out the front door they know what it means lol
Loco our malamute is mental she leaps around like an idiot but you put the collar of her harness our and she shoves her head straight through
Everybody should visit a rally we love spectators and the dogs love showing off
Henry had a job when he arrived - it was called hauling me back from the verge of a nervous breakdown. He did it damn well - it's hard to hide under the duvet when you've got a mad dog in the kitchen that needs walking!
Hen, how do you teach the stop whistle? I am desperate to teach this to Henry but haven't the faintest idea how to do it!
Obviously Otto learnt sit, then he learnt a hand up meant sit, then he learnt one long whistle and hand up meant sit - all in the safety of our house, then progressing outside etc
Now I have him walking at heel and as I stop I blow the whistle so he sits, I do it a few times to get his brain in gear and then send him out (but keep him in close, as in a few steps away) call his name to get his attention, then blow the whistle and hold up my hand, hopefully by this point his brain is in gear and he sits where he's stood
If not a growl in his direction and a repeat of the whistle and hand signal usually works.
Now we are progressing to him being further away, which is the hard part as he associates sitting with being next to me, eventually I hope to be able to just blow the whistle and have him sit and also to have him sit even with distractions, although I strongly suspect this will take forever with Snotbag
No idea if this is the right way or not, but it seems to be working for Otto.
Not really, but it hasn't got any worse, we have a new Vet now and she doesn't really have any suggestions on what to do with it, so is a bit useless (although she is fab with everything else!) my old Vet, who had a set timeline for it to heal has moved somewhere else far away
