He was a rescue case really, poor chap! Had the worst mud fever our vet had ever seen, fresh barbed wire cuts on his back legs, a fractured tooth (his face was really swollen on one side), and a really nasty open cut on his knee, about 8 inches long and 3 or 4 wide. It was weeping, and has left an asolutely massive scar and stiffness in that knee. I couldn't leave him there :( He has turned out to be a fantastic horse!! And needs a grazing muzzle on constantly, he's such a good doer!

A couple of days after he arrived, nearly 4 years ago!

And now!

Looking at these pics make me realise how much better he is, I think before and afters are so satisfying! Lets see yours! :D

Gorgeous!

Well done you. My Den was a rescue, will try and dig out a before picture of him tomorrow.

I love seeing the before and after shots

Wow well done you..great transformation!! Very handsome chappy now :-)

I have never rescued one myself but many years ago my Mom rescued a little colt called Lincoln. He was three years old when she bought and was destined for the bullet - I mean you can see for yourselves in the picture how poor he was. He was bought for £5 although everyone told my Mom there was not really any chance he would make it she just couldnt walk away and leave him. He was riddled with worms and survived on carrots for the first few weeks as wouldnt eat anything else, but over many months he gradually improved. He did in the end make a full recovery and lived to his late 20's.

"What breeding is he?"

The likeness is uncanny! :D I have no idea, he was being sold for meat, but I'm certain he's well bred, he has beautiful correct conformation and very expressive paces... I think he just fell on hard times! What's your girl's breeding?

Omg Vicky, what a huge difference! Poor boy, he looks in a terrible state in the first one! You guys did a completely amazing job, and how kind of your mom!!

Your mother did an amazing job to get that horse to recover from that state. I would say very few would be able pull through and make a full recovery that are in that condition. Fantastic achievment.

Some really fantastic transformations on here, well done to you all :)

Mine are funny more than anything. First, the difference a Summer of grass can make, from this:

To this (and still far from finished)

Then an amusing picture of a scruffy pony about to be broken in:

The same pony, magically transformed into a little show horse:

Love the pictures so far everyone, it's so heartwarming to see horses and ponies which have obviously been uncared for and neglected chnaging into happy and healthy horses and ponies.

My 8 year old TB gelding Duke came from a Polo Yard where he had been left out all winter with no rugs in the wind and rain and snow etc. I bought him in a sad state. He doesn't look too bad in the pictures but he was riddled with Rain Scald (see mottled spotting all over his back, neck, face etc) and had mud fever on his back legs right up to his bum. He was sore, itchy and down in the dumps. Lots of medicated baths in the sun later and you can see how much his coat has improved.

He is an amazing horse and and has given me so much confidence. He does anything I ask and NEVER bucks, bolts, rears or anything nasty. He is a little grumpy around food but I think that's from the days when he had to fight for what little food there was.

Some brilliant pictures and stories :D. Very well done everyone :D

After investigation for lameness and generally stressing at being away, Dizz went from this at the start of May 2009:
