These two cheeky monkeys!! Originally we were just looking for one companion for my mare but when we went to see them the lady said they were half sisters who had been together since birth so we thought we couldn't split them up! They were unhandled off the Yorkshire Moors, both were bred to show but my vet suspects they are very much in bred as they have the worst teeth both my vet and dentist have ever seen!! Both have said that left up on the moors they would have eventually died as there teeth would have got so bad they wouldn't have been able to eat! They were so shy when we got them but now very cheeky and friendly
My dentist has said he would like their skulls for research when they pass as he has never seen teeth so bad - they have to have their teeth filed with special equipment every 6months so they can keep eating!!
This is them last winter, we've had them about 3yrs now!
Well done everyone - you should be so proud of yourselves.
What you've all done is amazing and thank god there's now a few less neglected equines (and other animals) out there. A shame there has to be any at all.
xx
Captain a 17-3hh Gelderlander was a very skinny and extremely out of control horse when we bought him. I have since found out the grooms on his old yard were scared stiff of him and he was a terror when we got him. Now he is a pussycat, but I could never sell him in Cumbria his reputation proceeds him!
These were taken after 3 months on 3 buckets a day.
3 months on again
And last spring coming out of a hard winter. He will never have a fantastic topline and will always be "front loaded" it is his breed. But he is like a different horse now.
Love him to bits, he is a gentleman now. No problems any more.
Brill pics & pleased that others added theirs. It was not just confined to horses or those that were underweight but for all those bought out of pity rather then common sense! When I bought Flick I had no idea she had been sold to be PTS & a year on I question why anyone would do that. I know she is one of many that make that journey & we cant rescue them all, & in some cases neither should we. Never an easier horse to deal with & manners to burn & honest as the day is long.
