Letters from the House of common,Anyone else received one ?

Today I received 2 lovely(standard ??) letters from the House of Common,one from the MP of Amersham and one from my local MP re the Amersham Horses, and how they are working together with RSPCA and the Police..did anyone else get one ? I have never received a letter from the House of Common so i was a little bit excited

I have had quite a few as I make a point of writing to my MP on quite a lot of occasions!
I think it is important to let MPs know how you feel on certain issues, it may one day make a difference - it may not but it's better than doing nothing!
Well done for writing the initial letter - keep on doing it!
 
And me! Must have impressed the postman! One from Cheryl Gillan, the MP for Amersham saying she would do all she could to make sure the horses were not returned; apparently she had been inundated with correspondence and one helpful one from my MP in Hampshire saying he had written to Lord Rooker asking for further details, and promising to keep an eye on the situation.

what right do MP's have to interfere with what a judge may or may not decide?

they may not like it, their constituants may not lik it...but if lawyers/judges, after considering evidence in what is, afterall, a civil case, what business is it of a local MP??

they are NOT elected to interfere in matters of the law...regardless of pressure from, sometimes, over emotive constituants.....

No one has mentioned anything about interfering with the judge so DONT START ! This post was just to express my excitement about receiving a letter from T.H.C All we said was that it was a nice letter and that the MP of Amersham has been in contact with the RSPCA and The Police.I will scan the letter tomorrow. We all wrote to the MP in Amersham after the charities adviced us to ! Some of us actually wanted the judge to reverse his decision or give a stay,so that the animals could continue to be cared by the charities instead of being sent to an auction/J.G, and if a letter to a MP was needed thats what we all did !! I know that for some people it was a decision they were not happy with and i think thats why the forum has gone so aggressive/unpleasant/divided again
very sad actually since on a forum like this is animal/horse owners/lovers got one thing in common and that is welfare for our animals and i dont understand why some people cant share our joy that 111 Animals will remain feed and warm for a little bit longer ....

Well done Paddywhack. It's nice to have acknowledgement for your hard work even though that's not the reason you do it of course. It was the best outcome in the circumstances and there's no doubt that people writing and signing the petiton etc had a positive impact.
 
If People write to their MPs it means that they are then aware of the issues that concern their constituents. MPs vote on new laws and can also proprose new ones thru the private members bill. If they work out that people are upset by what has happened maybe they will look to improve the current legislation.

Saying all that this week I had to answer a letter that a MP had recieved from one of his constituents, who was obviously a bit mad, nice way to spend a morning.

i'm not one of many running arond on a futile wild goose chase...

can i ask all you who are channelling VAST amounts of energy into OE......

what have any of you done OUTSIDE OE???

how many other groups of horses/ponies have been looked up?
how many others have been rescued?
how many others have had large sums of money raised for?
who's been to Reading campaining?
Who's been to Brecon horse fair campaining?
Who's been to Usk campaining?

On OE's behalf NONE - We are not a rescue group and do not have the facilites to do so

Well I certainly haven't as like I said, I've been rather tied up in my own life!

From OE's point of view, goods were donated and delivered on 26th Jan, everyone that wanted to donate money was asked to use the facilites online through the charities website, so the money went straight to the charities.....

"Others" have held events and raised money for these charities and for smaller unknown charities.

So as far as OE is concerned it has had NO dealings with cold hard cash, as we did not want to be handling money, did not want to set up a bank account and certainly did not want to enter into the world of becomming a registered charity. (probably due to the fact that most of us have our owns lives and are far too busy to take on another full time job!)

OE was formed very quickly..... and in the end, we did what we said, delivered the donated goods to the charities and raised awareness.

I got a lovely email from the Amersham MP the other day, apologising for it only being a short message but she had been inundated with letters and emails, and that she would keep me updated of any progress in the case. Very nice I thought.

Surely trying to help one group of animals may result in the greater good ultimately???

but i really don't get the whole "idea" of this.....there has been/still is SO much effort just for one group of animals....

as i asked above...surely if some of this energy was channelled elsewhere, then THAT would be far more beneficial..in stopping SF happening again...

yes, i suppose i may be taking things personally...as i see these type of animals at sales REGULARLY......and no, sadly, there is NO-ONE to stand up for them...THAT is what needs to be addressed and dealt with.....and if the loud voices on here, were to be speaking up for ALL rather than 111, then i, for one would applaud their efforts...

Perhaps you ought to take a look at the big picture. This 'campaign' was not just about the Amersham horses. It is about the animal welfare act and the future of cruelty cases in this country in general. I'm sure that most of us can see that'
 
Maybe you should chanel YOUR energies in2 something worthwhile instead of being angry at someone/persons who is/are actually trying to help the welfare of all animals.

If you take a step back and have a good look at the wider picture you would be able to see how much is actually being done for other animal welfare issues.....some which has come about from the Amersham Horses issue.

The Amersham Horse issue has shown ppl what actually goes on at horse sales, meat trading etc.......there are a lot of ppl out there who didnt know a fraction of what goes on until this hit the news and are now doing something positive.

Why is there is so much effort for one group as you put it.........because this is the issue of the moment once this is over it will be another issue..........I'm sure you realise that this is how things get sorted....by bringing them to the publics attention.

When I was collecting for OE I did actually receive a cheque for £1000 which was paid to the Horse Trust.....benefiting more horses than just the Amersham Horses....but it was given because of the Amersham Horses.

You do not have the facts of the bigger picture.....so its not really correct to call this a wild futile goose chase!

Well done to all who wrote and received letters for doing your bit.
 
The case re Amersham Horses was an eye opener for me and i admit that,I think that a can of worm has been opened up thanks to this case and it can only get better from here,we have noticed so many cruelty cases going to court over the last month or so,and i think in the background there are more brewing and i personally think/hope that this is only the beginning for general welfare of horses and the end for dodgy dealers.I got no problem with meat dealers making a living long as animals are being well cared for,we all eat meat(I dont eat horse meat and i have not had salami since the rescue of the A.H and i learned that donkey meat is in salami)
I have collected and donated feed and money that went STRAIGHT to the charities caring for the horse/donkeys

I do plenty outside of OE. In 7 months we have managed to rescue and rehabilitate over 30 horses and ponies, some are still with me but the majority have gone into lease homes. We have rehabed all types from neglected underweight shetlands to Hanovarian dressage horses....so please before making sweeping statements and assumptions check your facts

Polticians DO interfere with all types of judicial issues
Politicians make the laws,sometimes flawed, or with loopholes, so need to be awre of the new law's interpretation and effect on thier constituents.
This is one of the first high profile cases under the 2006 act, created by MP's

Re Collections
Donations of cash and goods were not ringfenced as 'Amersham ' but given to support welfare organisations experiencing a sudden increaae in demand for resources.
 
Yes, got reply from the Amersham MP : it all sounded very encouraging, really, as they are obviously working hard behind the scenes to ensure that justice is done. Hope its genuine, and not just a standard response!
 
Hi PW. A trivial point, but if you buy your salami from any of the major supermarkets, it won't contain donkey meat. The vast majority of salami in the UK has been Anglocised to a degree, and even on the continent for their own consumption it isn't that common. I work in this part of the food industry and it would be extremely foolhardy to market products containing donkey or any equine meat in the UK, through the major supermarkets. In fact you'd never get it on the shelves, such is the sensitivity of the subject to us Brits or at the very least, the buying departments of any major supermarket.

I dont eat much read or meat in general due to bad IBS problem BUT i do like a toast with a little bit of Salami
But after hearing all the horror stories about live animal transport throughout Europe i stopped eating it,so I might treat myself to some this week
