As if my TB doesn't throw enough ailments at me
pretty sure this is the latest!
He's had a couple of mud fever bouts this winter, it's been so wet so hardly surprising. However each time they have been localised bouts, and have cleared with my usual method of attack within a few days - twice daily liberal sudocream application and they just melt away.
However about 3 weeks ago, literally overnight, some patches appeared on his two white legs (1 front, 1 back) which were incredibly sore. I gave him a week, and the patches made absolutely no improvement at all, and seemed to be growing if anything. Normally I can carry on turning him out whilst treating mud fever, however I then brought in, and he's now been in a week and a half and still the patches are growing!
They don't resemble mud fever any more, just red patches which are oozing. They are all situated on the side of his pasterns, mostly on the outside, a little on the inside, and on the side of the fetlock. New circular lesions keep appearing, initially a lumpy scab which then comes away and is red raw underneath, and these keep growing in size.....
So......I'm keeping him in still, he can wander around the yard during the day, and I'm keeping his white bits bandaged with a soft fleece bandage to keep them covered from the light. I've been using sudocream - it seems to help slightly, as if I don't put it on it goes dry and crusty and seems to be more sore. I've also tried fucidin which seems to make it worse.
He's also had a snotty nostril since Christmas, which comes and goes, so I don't think he's as perky and healthy as he could be
so could do with finding a tonic to perk him up - any recommendations? I've successfully tried aloe vera juice previously so may begin with this.
Any other recommendations for the LV? I can see this ending up with a vet visit, more ££
