thank you - Im going for my C cat rather than the C1, as you suggested :D

the issue Im having is that most places do 5 day courses whereas I need to fit lessons in around work

Now the truth -

Most LGV training schools advertise courses over a number of consecutive days with a test on the last day BUT if you said that you want to do every weekend for 4 hours at a time and only wanted to book the test when ready to take it or you will try elsewhere then watch them try to accomodate you

That may cost a little more as weekend training and test rates tend to be higher

if only i had weekends off  It will most likely be during the week as we only get 3 weekends out of 17-odd.
That's good that they will try to accomodate - personally, I think that that's the way it should be. It certainly is where I work

Many schools do not have set mon to fri courses but stagger the start times of each course to fit in with what test dates they can get

This often leaves them with holes in their weekly training schedules which they would like to fill but usually cannot as not many people can accomodate them

It could be that if you give them dates when you are free then they might be able to fill some of those holes

The only places I know of are Ritches:

Glasgow Training Group:

or Malcolms at Linwood (don't know if they have a website)

There used to be a place at Hamilton but don't know if it is still there - a few places come up on Yell.com if you search there.

I'm not sure if any will do lessons rather than courses but may be worth phoning around and asking if you haven't done so. Originally my son was going to do his with Malcolms but they needed two people to run the course and didn't have anyone else - then they offered him the week he was working at Blair so he couldn't do that. Since then in spite of several phone calls they haven't come up with anything else so he has booked with Ritches for the end of the month.

They said the minimum training was 4 days and gave him a taster lesson for £20 to assess how much training he required and then booked his course. As they offer these assessments perhaps they would be able to do a series of lessons on that basis?

I don't know anything about the Glasgow Training Group but do know people that have been happy with both Malcolms and Ritches.

Hope that helps!

I did mine at Ritches they were great, maybe not the cheapest but I can't fault them really. I did the 5 days with the test at the end.

Yes, they phoned me back :) I'm going to book an assessment with them for next week

I haven't been able to find anything about malcolms in scotland doing training.
I've spoken to happy hour, who have said that they are passing people on to another company so no go there.

I've also spoken to ritchies so I might just go with them - they were able to let me book lessons to fit in with my shifts and it's just up the road from work.
