I read in the free sports paper this morning that Liberthine is running the National in foal.

I really don't know what I think about this so was wondering what others views are. Has this happened before?

I know that mares work quite happily while pregnant but the National??? I'm also assuming its not very long into the pregnancy.

I really did just wonder whats others views were as I'm just not sure what my thought on the matter are......

Sorry if there has already been a post on this

It supposedly brings out the best in a mare to compete them pregnant, because they won't be in season at the wrong time... I'd assume she's only a few weeks in foal and it won't do her any harm, I rode a mare who was 9 months pregnant and jumped her, she was keen as ever to get on with the job!

There is a legal cut off point for racing mares in foal, I dont know what it is but im sure that racing would have the issue strictly covered.
Last summer there was a mare called Ahgowangowan that won 4/5 whilst in foal.
Years ago we had a mare that was a machine at home but a tart on the track. As a 10yo she hadnt won, we put her in foal and she won 3 on the trot.
