My 8 month foal has got lice millions of the horrid little critters.

Does amy body know of a fool proof way to kill the little biggars. I am not convinced that louse powder is going to do the job as he has such a dence baby coat that it would never penetrate. I can remember years ago having to bath a youngster in something from the vet, and my friend has used a prescribed wash that worked but we cant remember what its called

and we are sure its now available over the counter. Any ideas gratefully recieved. Thanks

Sisters gelding had lice last year and we used coopers which got rid of them pretty quick. He wasn't covered though - you could just spot the odd one when you looked and he was very itchy, poor chap! He has a pretty dense coat but two doses got rid of them completely so might be worth a try?

Our 11.1 had lice not long ago from the bedding, called the vet out and he injected him with something - couldn't tell you what it was though as can't remember! But cleared them up quickly, and we also put some powder down in his stable and disposed of the bedding that was in it. May be worth giving your vet a call and asking what lice treatments are available?

Frontline spray rubbed well in down to skin level works really well too. Whatever product you use, remember you have to do it again in 10 days or so because the unhatched eggs won't be harmed. When they hatch out, they simply re-infest the horse unless you zap them all over again.
