Hi
New horse arrived this weekend, very itchy, mainly neck and tail and on shoulders. He is very young and looks a bit sorry for himself, we think we can see lice.
Vet hasn't been out yet but advised on the phone to use deosect and get rid of bedding but what do we do to the stable & where he's been rubbing?
Any tips greatfully received as none of us have experience with lice

Thank you for the tips so far. Planning to throughly spray everything with a diluted version. Do I need to wash it off the horses or is it safe to leave on?

I had this issue earlier in the year.
I really wasn't keen on Deosect as it is soooo potent, tried every other item on the market and the one that came up trumps was BARRIER pesky pest wash. You just mix it with water, soak them head to toe and leave them to dry. I then put some in a spray bottle and soaked the mane and tail every few days and after a week he had stopped. trick is to keep doing it for a little while after the itching stops to catch the eggs as they hatch. Great natural product for under a tenner!

I used switch. A simple pour on, a couple of weeks apart. Takes only a minute to do, very effective and no washing and soaking horse.

Deosect and switch contain the same active ingreadient Permethrin. The advantage of deosect is you can treat the stable and bedding as well.

Deosect nuked my girls lice when she came to me as a 7mo weaning. I diluted it as per instructions and sponged it on all over her. One treatment and we've never had the beggars since! I didn't do the bedding/stable at the time.
